WWMRD?
First of all this is Sputnik but I will go from the article without further research nonetheless.

I'd say that using Fahrenheit 451 is pretty overblown and over the top as the Internet and libraries are still in operation, if kids want to educate themselves about ancient history there are plenty of resources. It seems that they are just adjusting their curriculum to fit the times which makes sense because with limited time and resources one should prioritize what is most useful in the end.

Oh wait, that isn't exactly what they are doing is it?

Maybe because the Medieval History is more important than the Ancient History in Sweden...because of the Vikings.

Btw we Italians take history curricula very seriously: to give you an idea, this is the standard history curriculum, for all high schools (5 years).

Prehistory
Mesopotamians and Egyptians
The Greek civilization
Romans: the Republican period

2nd year

Middle Ages, the Byzantine Empire
Charlemagne
The Holy Roman Empire and the Papacy
The Crusades

3rd year
Renaissance and Europe's Nation State
Scientific Revolution, Galileo
Reformation

4th year
The Enlightenment
The French Revolution
The Restauration
The Industrial Revolution

5th century
The 20th century

Wow. Sounds more like patriotism in the school curriculum to me.
Perhaps they are tired of conscientious objectors, and think it's time to drill young heads to be willing recruits... imo.
I see it a global (eventually) event.

This is the book of the first 2 years of high school...practically just the Ancient Age and the middle Ages ( from prehistory to 13th century)
