Does Man Really Have a Soul?

Feathers-- I would love to meet someone who could demonstrate to me that they can tell what's in another room via telepathy. Furthermore, provided that their powers of telepathy proved more accurate than a group of control subjects who guess at random in a carefully designed experiment, I would love to bring this discovery to the attention of the world. The trouble is, I have never encountered such a person, nor have I heard of any such experiment ever confirming telepathic claims.

the infusion of the driver with the car creating a 'soul' is likened to the spirit fusing with the body creating a soul.

she can also correct me if i'm wrong.but as she said, the man is a soul.the soul technically is not a different being from the body.*points to end of post #83*

The Hebrew word translated "soul" is ne´phesh, and it occurs 754 times in the Hebrew Scriptures. What does ne´phesh mean? According to The Dictionary of Bible and Religion, it "usually refers to the entire living being, to the whole individual." This is borne out by the Bible’s description of the soul at Genesis 2:7: "Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul." Note that the first man "came to be" a soul. That is to say, Adam did not have a soul; he was a soul—just as someone who becomes a doctor is a doctor. The word "soul," then, here describes the whole person. The word translated "soul" (psy·khe´) appears more than a hundred times in the Christian Greek Scriptures. Like ne´phesh this word often refers to the whole person. For example, consider the following statements: "My soul is troubled." (John 12:27) "Fear began to fall upon every soul." (Acts 2:43) "Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities." (Romans 13:1) "Speak consolingly to the depressed souls." (1 Thessalonians 5:14) "A few people, that is, eight souls, were carried safely through the water." (1 Peter 3:20) Clearly, psy·khe´, like ne´phesh, refers to the whole person. According to scholar Nigel Turner, this word "signifies what is characteristically human, the self, the material body having God’s rûah [spirit] breathed into it. . . . The emphasis is on the whole self.

Though many successful cases have been fully documented on remote viewing I would imagine the study of the mind/soul connection is still in its infancy. There are many resources available written by leading professionals in the field of remote viewing that anyone can review and discern for themselves if this is something that interests you.

Carderro, Mr.Sprinkles, I agree with you both. All I've maintained is that scientific experiments could be devised to test such claims about out-of-body experiences, past lives, and telepathy. Even if confirmed, there would still be a question of whether "spirits" or mental phenomenon were at work. Obviously, in the past life/ language thing, gibberish would not satisfy. Ideally, there would be a person who can converse in the old language sitting in on the hypnosis session, talking to the "regessed" one, and the whole thing videotaped.

The dog telepathy thing may seem odd to you. The described phenomenon is a dog who goes to the front door, turns circles, scratches, whines (as if someone were there), when her master leaves work to come home from a job 30 miles away. Other dogs have been noted to respond to command from masters out of sight and hearing. These things would be easy to confirm with two fixed camera which record time and date. This method would also test human twins, and mothers and children, who report picking up the telephone to call the other only to find the other already on the line (before the phone rings).

I believe the human does have a soul, but it is not classed as the soul God states we have, nor is it some type of Soul experiment(my name haha). The soul is what causes the brain to feel and carry out emotions. Without this soul, we would be all boring mindless zombies.

I haven't read this whole thread and I must apoligize for that but I noticed something I wanted to address...I DON'T know how out of body experiences happen but it happened to me when I was 4. I was drowning. I felt myself taknig in water in my lungs,I felt myself hit the bottom of the creek we (my babysitter, her sister and brother) were swimming at. I felt myself rise out of the water...I SAW they were playing with a beach ball and not paying attention to me and I'd slipped down through the hole of the inner tube without a sound...I remember saying as if trying to speak out loud'I'm drowning over here aren't you gonna'do something?' and in seconds I was back in the water and being yanked up out being told to cough it up and being revived. IT WAS WEIRD...never understood it and never tried...PLEASE don't think I'm some weirdo because I had this happen...I just wanted to relate it happens...although I have no idea of how or why unless it's some sort of close to death thing where your time just isn't up yet.

I hope the subject of past lifes is not off-topic (since I brought it up). Christians generally disagree with reincarnation, and scientifically I have a problem with it, too. Still, lots of people have these flashes. My wife has recurrent dreams about a certain Victorian-style house that she knows like she lives there (in her dreams), she can draw a picture of it and describe details though she's never seen or been in such a place.

You guys should check out the Past Lifes forum at Beliefnet. I tend to think most of this is a huge crock, but a lot could be critically evaluated.

A past life is something I do believe in, and I think it may have an effect on my "soul" itself. I may have been something or someone different previously (and not soultype version 0.5)

To wat u call conscience !
to wat u call spirit !
to wat u never say matter !
but before moving further !
i yearn to know wat's conscience !
the soul is all beyond matter that looks fine !
still each matter is known by its spirit !

still it is not soul !
still knowing spirit is not our goal !
nest in searching a place to nest !
till then let me enjoy in rest !
