Thai Pongal 2020

Just came back from koyil, from our annual Thai Pongal festival, the equivalent of Makar Sankranti in the north. It's a harvest festival, but today's temperature was -39 C with a wind chill of -49. To put it in perspective that means that exposed skin is susceptible to frost bite in about 3 minutes. Our Iyer was wiser this year, and he wore socks and a parka while doing the sun puja, which has to be done outside.

Happy Pongal, to those who celebrate.

Funny, they're calling it Makara Sankranti at the temple here... a decidedly southern temple. I'm so dense I thought it had something to do with crocodiles until I read up on it. My brain is a loofah... hard, dry and full of holes. :D I'm more than happy to wish Suryadeva a speedy trip north. :)

Shubha Makara Sankranti!
