Some people and cultures are averse to the notion of male beauty.

Beauty, male or female, truly is in the eye of the beholder. I for one don't care for pretty men. Gay men are stereotypically supposed to be attracted to beautiful, fit, even pretty, men. I've not found that to be the case.

I don't care for FEMININE-looking men. I have this fancy for this notion of masculine beauty. Young Donny Osmond might fit that category. So might young Geoff Minger. He's a natural smooth guy. No queenish makeup on. I love the hair!

Nowadays, poor old Geoff let himself go and he looks like a fat, bearded old goat without a nice tan.The beautiful blond "head mane" is now long gone too. How time killed Geoff (does Father Time hurt men a lot worse than it does women in the looks department?):

That's Italia...I mean... we have this standard. Women are supposed to be divinas (perfect body, perfect clothes, perfect hairstyle) while men are allowed to be scruffy....

But that is the opposite stereotype we Italians have thinking of Americans: that is...in the US handsome pretty males usually marry not that pretty women.;)

And yes...we do think US males do deserve better

White Boys - HAIR Musical

Galt MacDermot

White boys are so pretty
Skin as smooth as milk
White boys are so pretty
Hair like Chinese silk
White boys give me goose bumps
White boys give me chills
When they touch my shoulder
That's the touch that kills
Well, my momma calls 'em lilies
I call 'em Piccadillies
My daddy warns me stay away
I say come on out and play
White boys are so groovy
White boys are so tough
Every time that they're near me
I just can't get enough
White boys are so pretty
White boys are so sweet
White boys drive me crazy
Drive me indiscreet
White boys are so sexy
Legs so long and lean
Love those sprayed-on trousers
Love the love machine
My brother calls 'em rubble
That's my kind of trouble
My daddy warns me "no no no"
But I say "White boys go go go"
White boys are so lovely
Beautiful as girls
I love to run my fingers
And toes through all their curls
Give me a tall
A lean
A sexy
A sweet
A pretty
A juicy
White boy
Black boys!
White boys!
Black boys!
White boys!

The truth, Jonathan is that the US are a very masculine culture...
I think it is so masculine you have been pushing women to be masculine too...that is why you are so worried about "male beauty standards"

Italy is feminine...just think Mary is much more worshiped than God and Jesus.
And the Italian national TV obsessively dictates canons of female beauty portraying female nudity...(quite different than American TV where women are dressed like nuns)

That he cannot satisfy a insatiable Italian woman in bed...to begin with?
:p
The high-school girls in Novato, California 1982 would have peed their panties had Geoff Minger showed up at school dance or some other function! He was Playgirl centerfold of 1982! I believe he was a soap star. The hottest young fellows used to be California soap opera celebs. I'm Novato HS class of 1982. My widowed mother, 45 then, had a crush on David Bowie in 1983 when he was on MTV music video. I can't say Bowie was ever that attractive but certainly no scruffy ape.I had commented that Bowie looked like a pansy in the videos but mom didn't like that.

Geoff Mincer looks like a pansy to me.

(See what I did there?)

Perhaps you and I just have different standards for masculine beauty?

And different view on natural skin colour, I'd bet
You'd lose that bet.

I find various skin tones an interesting feature. The closest you'd come is that when I see blondes with dark tans I see "high maintenance, prone to melanoma". I don't find those qualities attractive.
