Here's an interesting little news item from my local conservative rag the Toronto Sun

A new study reveals that in the church-going U.S. South, consumption of online porn is higher than anywhere else in America.

In the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior, researchers discovered that U.S. states with more religious conservatives search more for hormone-charged content on Google.

And there are other surprises, as well: the Bible Belt states submit more amateur interracial porn than elsewhere, and more gay porn is consumed in those same areas.

Looks like the more something is taboo, the more people want to get at it.

Isn't this because there is more religious indoctrination in the area and thus people are actually living double lives because they fear the consequences of not being "holy"? Thus they are repressed sexually and are using porn as an outlet for their real desires in secret.

Most likely they're just viewing it so they know what all those evil perverted people are up to.

Not at all surprised that the biggest Jesus freak states also have some of the biggest hypocrite (Utah has some interesting bits about their spoken views about porn and their real lives - Indiana I just assume has some crap).

Thats because they are taught bull**** when it comes to sex. Like condoms being generally effective and a womans vagina being like a piece of scotch tape that is easily used up or like second-hand sloppy seconds chewing gum.

Not surprising, if or when the majority of people claiming to be Christians are religionists or legalists only, rather than having lives transformed by Christ. Some people think they are Christians just because they are Americans or were raised in the Bible Belt or a church. Yet, when all one has is religion or legalistic practices they are still living in the flesh, not the spirit and things which are “taboos” or the lusts of the flesh will always prevail.

So, does this mean that atheists reroute their online activities through Bible belt? :D

But why don’t atheists consume it as much? Are they not interested?

I have also sometimes wondered, do people want what they watch online or from tv. There is lot of murders and brutal violence in movies and other programs. Are people watching them, because they like violence and all kind of evil? I don’t understand why for example horror movies are so popular.

I recall some wise words of Alastair Cooke, who said that in his experience the only aphrodisiacs that worked were (1) youth and (2) boredom.

I suspect a lot of people in the Bible Belt lead boring lives. But maybe someone should check the age profile of the population too.

Exploring what is taboo brings its own kind of excitement.
The more that is taboo, the more there is to be excited by.

Well, the South isn't really as monolithic as it's often portrayed. I'd be interested in seeing the stats for each state.

A Christian's gotta know what those sinners need saving from! ;)

Smut, I tell ya, it's all smut! (I can't do that word justice without vocalisation.) Scrinch up your entire face into something you're really disgusted at, and let 'SMUT' just roll out.)
