Hijab

I'd extend that just a bit. These traditions, rites and rituals become for many a barrier. It's as if people argued about the cover of a book rather than reading and understanding it and integrating it in their lives.

And even then, if someone does read the book, are they reading it with "eyes to see" what it really contains (as the Bible puts it).
Amen!

I'm a little surprised that hajib hasn't become something of a fashion statement.

Oftentimes they're both functional and good looking. Far more so than the weird hair, ridiculous clothes, or tattoos people often sport to stand out.

Why don't Muslim clerics use it on men as a way of dictating male behaviour?

I think the answer to that, and many similar questions, is that men don’t get pregnant. Basic barnyard politics.
They didn’t have the pill and recreational drugs and porn to open up the conversation. :p

Actually, like many other borrowed (and corrupted) concepts courtesy of Islam, hijab is a blatant ripoff of Catholic nun head-coverings and Paul's teachings.

3 But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved. 6 For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head.

7 A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; 9 neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 10 It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own head, because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12 For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.

13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. 16 If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God.

The reason I say it is a corruption is because (unlike Islam) Paul clearly sees this as part of women's glory. That is, Paul actually likes women and respects them. He actually lets them be church leaders, he mainly did this because Gentiles were shocked at how many rights women had under Christianity.

Name one female imam. But but there are... that leads a male or mixed mosque service.

You learn something everyday; why are they not worn?

Hijab according to clerics is not a head scarf. Its a way of life. So men also have a way of life.

And the question in the OP is nothing about why people wear it or not. Hope you understand.

Thanks. But not relevant to the OP which i am sure you would understand.

I think there is a big difference between a veil that covers just the head and one that covers the face. The former is simply a style of dress, but the latter takes away a woman's humanity.

I also object to clothing which hides a woman's natural beauty. I'm not saying don't be modest. But God made women to be beautiful. From the time we can look in a mirror, we begin dressing in princess clothes -- not for men to look at, but for the sheer pleasure of looking beautiful. It's just our nature. Forcing us to deny our nature completely is a form of abuse. I don't care whether it is Muslim, Jewish, or Christian. And even an older woman who has a belly can still dress in a way that is attractive, and rightly so! It is one of the ways we grace the earth.

I would much rather Muslim women wear harem clothes than hijab. I mean, even supposedly being sexually demeaned is a cut above the female equivalent of a castration by clothing.

Firedragon, yes I understand that the OP has a biased view, and isn't gonna take any criticism.

My how enlightened.

Especially since these men, who are so easily tempted by anything deviating from a tent (read: serial rapists) are quick to blame a woman for what is effectively their natural appearance. Meanwhile such "men" probably have, in addition to seven wives and several concubines, several unreported women they've raped and left destitute because they went out and didn't wear hijab.

Don't try to pin this on women. Westerners have simple means of controlling children. It's called KEEPING IT IN YOUR PANTS.

Whats the bias view of the OP? And whats the criticism you have about the OP?

It will be nice to hear.

I don't see the big problem with wearing a scarf on the head for fashion or because of religion.

In Europe, it was very common for the female to wear a headscarf in the 1950s and 1960s and today we see Muslim women wearing a headscarf.

Why is it so bad that so females today wear a scarf on their heads, but when it was common in Europe and America then it was totally normal and fashionable?

I'm guessing the difference is in what the scarf represents.
With muslims, it's not just a "fashion choice".
