There is no more Boy Scouts.

For the first time in its 100+ year history, the iconic program of the Boy Scouts of America is open to both young men and young women. Scouts BSA is a year-round program for boys and girls in fifth grade through high school that provides fun, adventure, learning, challenge, and responsibility to help them become the best version of themselves.

Since when does BOY mean child of either sex?
Have they lost their Websters?

This is one big reason I'm not a parent and never will be.

I will not bring new children into a gender-confused world full of two-legged scum that calls itself "the human race". As far as I'm concerned the world can just die out altogether.

I never said I could but if memory correctly serves me from Birds and Bees 101, it takes both a man and woman to bring a child into this world as it takes car with gas in the tank to get anywhere....unless "children" are nowadays being made in China on an assembly line and imported here.

The Girls Scouts still doesn't admit male members (and it absolutely should not ever) but nobody seems to be squawking about that.

Well in some limited cases, not very often, a Male to Female and a cis woman can still, and so on and so forth. Probably not something you wanted to think about, but this is RF and you did create a thread about gender... so I'm open to curiosity deep-frying the cat.

Why do you care either way?

The Scouts admitting girls is hardly a world-ending catastrophe, is it? I fail to see what possible consequence there can be beyond girls who want to join the scouts being allowed to join the scouts.

What, exactly, is wrong with that?

Baden Powell and his sister formed two organisations Boy Scouts, and the Girl Guides.
These were typically divided, as were all organisations in late Victorian England, by sex.

For some reason the Americans Chose to call both groups as Scouts.

It is no longer acceptable to separate people by gender nor any other such attributes.

The Boy Scouts has recognised that they are not immune to such social changes in attitude and law.

Welcome to the modern world.

The strange thing is there is a girl scouts.

People get anal over gender inclusive organizations nowadays.

Anyways today's generation don't deserve those organisations. Let them drown in their own vomit.

It was a good time for the boy scouts and the girl scouts. RIP

The BSA has been co-educational at the older Explorer/Venture level for many decades without any great disaster befalling the nation. Scouting organisations around the world have been co-ed for much, much longer, again, without any major problems. It’s ultimately a choice for the individual organisations and there are other similar ones which are remaining single-sex, for either boys or girls.

It doesn’t. Like a whole range of old organisations, inevitable changes in the world means the BSA now has an anomalous name. They’ve already changed their formal name to reduce the anomaly but it doesn’t actually mean anything.

I don't have a horse in this race, I live in an enclosed community that barely ever has to deal with this ... type of thing. But you could easily answer both your and the OP's concerns by saying that the Girl's Scouts should work harder at doing those things.

Not sure what all the fuss is about. I would have been rather pleased to see girls in the Scouts when I did my time with them, such that I might have had more girlfriends and a lot less trouble later in life.

I think this is the whole point. Our two girls were in GS for a time and were always jealous of our son's experiences, he is an eagle scout.

I know a lot of girls who jumped over to the 4H Club instead of scouts.
