Lie of the year.

It's very often a matter of opinion whether a statement
stems from dishonesty or utter stupidity. I pick lie for this'n.
She can't be that....uh.....challenged.
Everyone can easily misread a statement from a field of study one is not a student of and mix it up in one's head. You don't have to be stupid, just a bit superficial in your information gathering.
The original prediction was
If we do nothing for the next 12 years, we can't cap global warming to 2° C and we'd likely run into feedback effects that cause a runaway greenhouse scenario.
The press shortened that to
If we do nothing for the next 12 years, the world as we know it will end.
Just re-arrange that sentence, omit a phrase and you have
If we do nothing, the world will end in 12 years.
Just the usual game of telephone.

You're very charitable.
But were I so generous with my inferences, then no
one would've lied. And that would ruin this thread.

For those who believe her....

You don't seem to understand. Being obtuse and taking stuff literally so as to disparage people you dislike is the whole point.

I mean, anybody who is older than 10 would realize that when somebody says something like that they aren't being literal. But what does that matter, when we can just pretend to be incredibly stupid in order to make ourselves look... Clever, somehow?

I smell a double standard. Those defending AOC's ludicrous
claim would never be so charitable towards Trump. They take
his words literally when it suits.
But note that your justification for her statement is predicated
on her meaning something other than what she said, ie, it was
intentionally untrue.

Was she lying, stupid, misspoken, or merely histrionic?
I'm inclined to favor the last one. But I ranked it as the "lie of the
year" cuz it was the biggest, ie, the end of the world is a topic
which dwarfs all other contenders. One would have to be
obtuse to not see that.

"Quick! Look over there!"

Or, intentional and knowing hyperbole using a rhetorical device. Hence, not a lie.

Full quote:

“Millennials and Gen Z and all these folks that come after us are looking up, and we're like, 'The world is going to end in 12 years if we don't address climate change, and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it?'”

SOURCE: Ocasio-Cortez: "The World Is Going To End In 12 Years If We Don't Address Climate Change"

See how the statement is nestled within a hypothetical rhetorical device, making it a non-literal representation of the discussion, not an actual, literal claim?

But, that's obviously not as good a headline. And not all of you can be bothered to read past those.

Was she lying, stupid, misspoken, or merely histrionic?
None of those. Obviously.

When Richard Attenborough refers to the "Majesty of the underwater Kingdom", do you think he's saying that there is a literal Kingship underwater? Or are you, as someone with the comprehension levels of someone over the age of six, able to understand that what they said is not meant to be literal, but illustrative?

Speaking of a double standard, this is something you do every day without fail. But when it comes to AOC, in your desperate bid to come off smarter and more capable than a respected politician, you suddenly lower your comprehension.

I think you have AOC-derangement syndrome.

No. Obviously, she totally meant it. Totally. That's so believable. And it's easy to see how she did it to intentionally mislead people into ACTUALLY thinking the world was LITERALLY going to end. Because that happened.

Because people are that stupid. Except for you, obviously. You intellectual giant, you. You can see through AOC's nonsense. You heard her say the world was going to end and you said to yourself "Hang on a second... No it isn't!"

Congratulations. You won!

Like most republicans, you ignore the science vehemently. Interesting agenda that makes zero sense.
Don't bother. When he loses any ground or face he'll just say something short and vaguely patronizing to make it look like you're overreacting and he's the "oh so cool intellectual" who's so right and cool that they're not even going to make the effort. Because that's cool.

Dude!

I'm an intellectual now?
Oh, dear.

That the Dem's will take win the Presidency, and the Senate, also remain in control of the House.
You obviously do not understand the term "lie". Perhaps that's one reason you give a pass to all of Trump's lies.

What do you think is the lie of the year? No points for guessing who is the liar of the year, that is too obvious. But which of the thousands of lies would you give the award of “lie of the year”?

Politifact made their choice.

Lie of the Year: Trump’s claim whistleblower got it wrong

A good choice, a lie that Trump has told over and over again, a lie that is clearly and unambiguously a lie, and that many of Trump’s followers probably still believe.

What do you think? Good choice for lie of the year?
That is a great choice.

There are so many hilarious lies from the orange con-man in the WH that it is difficult to pick just one.

But my vote has to go to Trump's sharpie doodle on an official hurricane map. The very same one depicted in your avatar. It is symbolic of his overall toddleresque lying style, which is to lie unnecessarily, and sloppily.
