That's like yesterday in God years.
So when the Bible speaks of Jesus returning "soon", that means absolutely nothing, since any span of time is "soon" in God's eyes?
A little bit of both Duke.
Six of one, half dozen of the other.
Yes there are two paths you can go by.
It depends on the context, and the understanding of the one who reads it.
My understanding is different from the traditional Christian.
There's different ways the word is translated.
It might mean soon, or it might mean fast, or it might mean suddenly.
"For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. - 1 Thessalonians 5:3
Maybe I'll be reaching for the car keys to go to the store to buy some onion dip and it will just hit suddenly like BAM. Without any warning. Sudden destruction. Like on the day Lot left out from Soddom. So shall it be at the coming of the Son of man.
But I think it means
FAST.
Tachus is the Greek word that we get tachometer from.
RPM, a need for speed.
quickly,
ταχύ (
tachy)
Adverb
Strong's Greek 5035: Quickly, speedily. Neuter singular of tachus; shortly, i.e. Without delay, soon, or suddenly, or readily.
“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. - Revelation 22:12
Also because of what Jesus said in Mathew:
"For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. - Matthew 24:27
I think this means fast. Lightning travels fast. When the coming of the Son of Man begins, it's going to be fast. Like lightning flashing across the sky..
You're only young but you're gonna die.
I don't think we're looking at a seven year, or a 3.5 year tribulation. I think we already used up those ones. I can hear the composite beast open it's mouth to blaspheme God and His dwelling place and those who live in heaven. I think that it's happening now, like a tribulum of the Matrix. People are walking around like everything is normal, but it's not. Something big should happen, then over the span of maybe the ten days from Revelation 2, the stars will fall from heaven, the tribes of the earth will see the sign of the Son of Man, and they will mourn.
"Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown. - Revelation 2:10
The other way to understand soon is from Revelation 1:1
Prologue
"The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. - Revelation 1:1
I'm a type of a Biblical Historicist. I think the biggest prophetic time period in the Bible is the 1260 years from Daniel 7 and Revelation 12. It's not the longest, but it's the most important one to understand because it lets us know where we are in the end time narrative. It was mentioned three times in the Bible.
These were the Foxe Book Days where the Dragon chased the
woman Church. This prophetic time period began in 538AD and ended in 1798 when the 6th head on the composite beast received it's mortal wound. During the French Revolution, Napoleon closed the Vatican down. The Pope was arrested and, after a torturous trip back to France, died in a jail cell there.
So if John wrote Revelation in 95AD, even excluding the seven churches, 538 - 95 = 443 years.
Yes, 443 years is soon in God years.
Would you rather live 443 years, or 10,000 years?
Would you rather live 10 million years, or 443 years?
If you DID live 10 million years, would 443 years seem like a short time?
2000 years would be a short time for a creature like Lucifer, who may have existed millions of years, even before the dinosaurs.
"Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. - Revelation 12:12
But including the seven churches at the beginning of Revelation, we are in it already.
It did begin.
Doesn't that seem rather convenient?
Only for me and my fellow Servants of the Lord.
Because the time is near.
Try reading it out loud.
"Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. - Revelation 1:3
Blessings.
