And nowhere in the West is this happening.
Actually, that's not quite accurate. It wasn't all that long ago that there was a serious consideration of allowing sharia law into the province of Ontario's legal system where family disputes were concerned. Fortunately -- for now -- that was defeated because we finally realized that it would cheapen the lives and worth of females. That defeat will not stop those who want sharia as part of our law. And history shows that repeated effort often results in the demanded change.

We need to be tolerant and respectful of all cultures, just because some customs may seem different or strange it doesn't give anyone the right to judge them.
But do we also need to be tolerant and respectful of all beliefs? Can you think of a belief that might not only merit not being respected, but also merit being forcibly put down?
And do beliefs inform culture?.

True, but I see no one on either side of the cultural divide embracing sharia.
Not sharia, but dangerous laws none the less such as an Ohio law that would attempt to force doctors to attempt to save an ectopic pregnancy, laws to deny LGBT rights, prayers instead of real solutions for school shootings, censorship laws, keeping evolution out of science classes to teach creationism, and insane and deranged laws about the environment lead with the belief god is about to destroy it all and begin anew anyways. And, of course, how we must behave, because be it hurricanes or boobquakes god has a bad aim or just doesn't care when he indiscriminately commits genocide.

It’s a shame the number of so called respected media outlets that won’t be reporting this crime.

It is also dreadful watching capitalism destroy the earth, culture, and any hope for a desirable future.

Global warming is a death sentence for billions, including the vast number of non humans who will perish along with us.

Islam is a medieval, regressive form of mind control. But then, so is most religion.

It is easy for secular westerners to criticise Islam, and so they should.
On the other hand, it is western capitalism and consumerism that is destroying the very basis of all life.

Without Islam, we would still be heading for global destruction. And denying it while we manufacture and consume unnecessary trinkets and toys to keep a tiny minority obscenely wealthy.

So I despise both, equally.

Give me capitalism any day.

Yeah, Pakistan is pretty crap. Devastating news :(

It gets worse, his defense lawyer was murdered and his parents say that the charges against him were fabricated because he was seen as too liberal.

His supposed crimes, according to them are that he said that the quran was derived from mesopotanian folk tales,he also insulted Muhammed on Facebook,is their religion that fragile that it can't withstand any criticism at all.

And what do you think Sharia is? It's just Islamic religious law. What you mention is the same as having Jewish religious courts settle disputes between Jews.
