My Church has never had a financial scandal in its entire history. I hope this accusation turns out OK for them. I never heard of a second coming fund.

And like Revolutiongiest says, they believe the second coming is coming soon and money can help them fight for Christ to win.

So do you honestly think my Church the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is going to be found to have a financial scandal? Can you prove in court that there will be no second coming?

You do realize how many churches offer intangibles in exchange for donations right?

Of course you haven't. That's stupid. There may possibly be a fund with $1 billion dollars in it (although I rather doubt it), but a "Second Coming Fund"? What on earth for?

How could Christ be in a losing position in anything? People, sure, but not Christ. His victory has been foretold.

What does it matter what I think? It only matters what the tax people think. There are rules around even religious tax exemption.

I know. The idea of desperate people giving me money for nothing has been a recurring temptation for me to form my own religion. It's tax exempt too. Yahoo!

The explanation I read in another article:

Charities have to use their money for charitable purposes. Reasonable reserve funds are allowed, but hoarding money isn't considered a charitable purpose.

That being said, other charities have similar hoards of money (for instance), so it seems to me like this might be making a whole lot out of the LDS Church not formally setting this fund up as an endowment.

I think there have been much worse violations of tax rules by religious organizations.

Yep. And my Church has never had a financial scandal so far in its history. Joseph Smith went to court at least 100 times and was found innocent every time.

If you think what we do doesn't matter, I oppose your line of thought. Acceptance of Christ means loving Him, obeying His commandments, following His example, taking upon us His name, remembering Him, emulating Him, listening to all He said, and trying to get what He was about among other things.
