I have a special needs dogs, his name is Spooky.

YeshuaRedeemed

Revelation 3:10
Spooky has PTSD due to being abused before he came to us. He has taught me to love self, and others, and I have PTSD due to abuse and mental illnesses, so I can literally identify with his issues. I am really serious. Humans can be kind to animals, and empathize with animals.

We have a cat with the same problems. After 5 years of gentle coaxing she actually played with a toy for a few seconds. About a year later she purred at being stroked rather than cowering (i actually cried tears of joy). We can now manage about 10 minutes or so of quality time with her a day before she remembers and moves away. We will continue caring with awareness of her limits, and hopefully, in time she can be a normal cat?

Kindness, patience and love are working.

I don't know how long you dog has been with you but keep on caring, as long as it takes.

Thank you. I love him so much. He has taught me how to love myself.
Dogs are fantastically loyal creatures. 'Loyal' does not even equal what they are. They have to be trained or at least handled a lot, and they often aren't bred for brains. Some are, but most of them are just bred to be either good hunters or very friendly.

I knew some people who had this fantastic large dog, but he was stupid. During thunderstorms he'd rip around the house destroying things. They had to keep him in the bathtub during storms and hold him down. Any other time he was very friendly, and he was good with kids, too.

They could have named him Spooked. Then if he met your dog it would be Spooky and Spooked.

Didn't know animals could have PTSD.
Why's his name Spooky?

I don't know about all animals, but I do know dogs and cats can experience their own versions of PTSD. I used to volunteer at PAWS, and I'd see it's effects all the time when an abused animal would be brought in. The dog I have now was abused when he was a pup, and he still has behavioral issues because of it even in his advanced age.
