Matthew 16:21 The First Prediction of the Passion.
From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised. Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, “God forbid, Lord! No such thing shall ever happen to you.” He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.”

In Matthew 16, Jesus identifies Satan as standing right next to Him. Had the Disciples drawn their swords and killed the one Jesus identified as Satan, would they have killed Satan?

In Revelation 12, was there a, ‘dragon’ (known as the devil or Satan), trying to kill Jesus at His birth, or is this verse symbolically describing man’s evil human pride in secular power, Herod, trying to kill Jesus at His birth?

Revelation 12:1 The Woman and the Dragon.
A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth. Then another sign appeared in the sky; it was a huge red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on its heads were seven diadems. Its tail swept away a third of the stars in the sky and hurled them down to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth.

Matthew 2:12
Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him.

Isaiah 14 talks about man’s evil human pride in world dominant secular power, king Nebuchadnezzar. King Nebuchadnezzar conquered Israel, and is the first to rule over Israel, upon their exile into captivity. King Nebuchadnezzar is described as, a ‘morning star’ ('morning star' is another term for angel) that falls from ‘the heavens’. 2 Samuel 23, describes a ‘morning light’ as one who rules over people on earth. Scripture indicates that it is king Nebuchadnezzar’s evil human pride which makes him think he is a god in ‘the heavens’.

Isaiah 14:12 The King of Babylon.
How have you fallen from the heavens, O morning star, son of the dawn! How are you cut down to the ground, you who mowed down the nations! You said in your heart: 'I will scale the heavens; Above the stars of God I will set up my throne; I will take my seat on the Mount of Assembly, in the recesses of the North. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will be like the Most High!' Yet down to the nether world you go to the recesses of the pit!

2 Samuel 23:3
The God of Israel spoke; of me the Rock of Israel said, He that rules over men in justice, that rules in the fear of God, Is like the morning light at sunrise on a cloudless morning,...

Lucifer
The name Lucifer originally denotes the planet Venus, emphasizing its brilliance. The Vulgate employs the word also for "the light of the morning" (Job 11:17), "the signs of the zodiac" (Job 38:32), and "the aurora" (Psalm 109:3). Metaphorically, the word is applied to the King of Babylon (Isaiah 14:12) as preeminent among the princes of his time; to the high priest Simon son of Onias (Ecclesiasticus 50:6), for his surpassing virtue, to the glory of heaven (Apocalypse 2:28), by reason of its excellency; finally to Jesus Christ himself (2 Peter 1:19; Apocalypse 22:16; the "Exultet" of Holy Saturday) the true light of our spiritual life.
quoted from:
Lucifer; New Advent Catholic Encyclopedia

I think Archangel Michael defeating ‘Satan’, ‘in heaven’, just as Jesus is enthroned as King and Ruler of the world, is symbolic for Jesus’ and His Angels, delivering us from ‘the evil one’, which is man's evil human pride in Gentile secular power, as we enter into Jesus ‘Kingdom Come’, on earth. Jesus will Rule with and through His Church, the Catholic Church.

Acts 26:17
I shall deliver you from this people and from the Gentiles to whom I send you, to open their eyes that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may obtain forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been consecrated by faith in me.

Revelation 12
...Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. Although the dragon and his angels fought back, they were overpowered and lost their place in heaven. The huge dragon, the ancient serpent known as the devil or Satan, the seducer of the whole world, was driven out; he was hurled down to earth and his minions with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have salvation and power come, the reign of our God and the authority of his Anointed One.

Matthew 6:9 The Lord's Prayer
"This is how you are to pray: 'Our Father in heaven hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done on earth as it is in heaven ...//... Subject us not to trial but

deliver us from the evil one.'

Does everyone understand that king Nebuchadnezzar, ruling over Israel, was as ruthless as Adolf Hitler? Israel had a protected and prosperous life in the Promised Land. However, Israel kept on sinning, massively. Because of Israel’s massive sins, God kicked Israel out of the Promised Land, to live in captivity, under, ruthless, Gentile, dictators. Relief from Gentile dictators is the big reason Israel prays hard to be Restored to their former glory, as God has Promised he will do. Israel’s Messiah, that Israel prays will come and rescue them, is Jesus.

One would think that eating pork would not be that much of a temptation. God put Gentile secular power as rulers over Israel, as chastisement for their sins. When Gentile secular power/Satan, is martyring your children, to force them to eat pork, eating pork becomes a great temptation from Satan.

Jesus, replacing secular power, when He Comes to Rule over Israel and the world, will be Jesus delivering us from 'the evil one'/’Gentiles’. Under Messianic Reign, there will be Peace on Earth. ‘The lion will lie down with the lamb’. People will ‘beat their spears into plowshares’. Come Lord Jesus! Rescue us!

2 Maccabees 7 Martyrdom of a Mother and Her Sons.

She had scarcely finished speaking when the youth said: "What are you waiting for? I will not obey the king's command. I obey the command of the law given to our forefathers through Moses. But you, who have contrived every kind of affliction for the Hebrews, will not escape the hands of God. We indeed, are suffering because of our sins. Though our living LORD treats us harshly for a little while to correct us with chastisements, he will again be reconciled with his servants. But you, wretch, vilest of all men! do not, in your insolence, concern yourself with unfounded hopes, as you raise your hand against the children of Heaven. You have not yet escaped the judgment of the almighty and all-seeing God. My brothers, after enduring brief pain, have drunk of never-failing life, under God's covenant but you, by the judgment of God, shall receive just punishments for your arrogance. Like my brothers, I offer up my body and my life for our ancestral laws, imploring God to show mercy soon to our nation, and by afflictions and blows to make you confess that he alone is God. Through me and my brothers, may there be an end to the wrath of the Almighty that has justly fallen on our whole nation." At that, the king became enraged and treated him even worse than the others, since he bitterly resented the boy's contempt. Thus he too died undefiled, putting all his trust in the LORD.

When the word “satan” appears without the definite article it means ”resister” and can apply to an individual.
In essence Jesus was saying to Peter “you are resisting me” and not thinking God’s thoughts but those of men.

But when used with the definite article “[Gr] ha”it refers to Satan the Devil (a person) as the conversation Jesus had with the Devil in Matthew 4 shows.

While the word is sometimes used as a general term, as a proper name Satan refers to the chief of the fallen angels; a personal being opposed to God and who works for the destruction of human souls by implicating them into sin.

391 Behind the disobedient choice of our first parents lurks a seductive voice, opposed to God, which makes them fall into death out of envy.266 Scripture and the Church's Tradition see in this being a fallen angel, called "Satan" or the "devil".267 The Church teaches that Satan was at first a good angel, made by God: "The devil and the other demons were indeed created naturally good by God, but they became evil by their own doing."268

Revelation 18:17
In one hour this great wealth has been ruined.
Every captain of a ship, every traveler at sea, sailors, and seafaring merchants stood at a distance and cried out when they saw the smoke of her pyre, 'What city could compare with the great city?' They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and mourning: 'Alas, alas, great city, in which all who had ships at sea grew rich from her wealth. In one hour she has been ruined. Rejoice over her, heaven, you holy ones, apostles, and prophets. For God has judged your case against her.' A mighty angel picked up a stone like a huge millstone and threw it into the sea and said: 'With such force will Babylon the great city be thrown down, and will never be found again'.

When I first started studying the Book of Revelation, I prayed to God to ask, 'What on earth is Babylon doing falling in our future Battle of Armageddon?' Babylon, the secular kingdom, already fell sixty some years after the fall of Israel to Babylon. So, why so much talk of the fall of Babylon in apocalyptic scriptural books of our future battle of Armageddon. The reason is, Babylon, being the first to conquer and rule over captive Israel, along with her king Nebuchadnezzar, have been made a symbol of all prideful world dominant secular power ruling over Israel, from 587 B.C. till Jesus' Second Coming, where He Smashes it to pieces.

Prideful, world dominant secular power falls from power, as our Lord Jesus Christ takes over as King and Ruler of the world. With Jesus enthroned as King and Ruler of the world, Israel is Restored and Zion, aka The New Jerusalem, is born on earth, atop the 'Holy Mountain of God'. New born Zion/The New Jerusalem is the post apocalyptic Catholic Church. God showed king Nebuchadnezzar a vision of Jesus' Second Coming, in his dream of a statue crumbling into dust and being blown away, never to be seen again. The statue in king Nebuchadnezzar's dream was built of all prideful secular dynasties, who ruled over Israel, from the fall of Israel in 587 B.C., to secular power ruling over Israel at the time of our future Battle of Armageddon, where Jesus smashes it to dust. King Nebuchadnezzar is at the head of the statue, as the first secular Gentile nation, to conquer and and rule over, captive Israel in exile.

Daniel 2:31 (Daniel is talking to king Nebachadnezzer)
'In your vision, O king, you saw a statue, very large and exceedingly bright, terrifying in appearance as it stood before you. The head of the statue was pure gold, its chest and arms were silver, its belly and thighs bronze, the legs iron, its feet partly iron and partly tile. While you looked at the statue, a stone which was hewn from a mountain without a hand being put to it, struck its iron and tile feet, breaking them in pieces. The iron, tile, bronze, silver, and gold all crumbled at once, fine as the chaff on the threshing floor in summer, and the wind blew them away without leaving a trace. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

Luke 20:17
'The stone which the builders rejected has become the keystone of the structure'? The man who falls on that stone will be smashed to pieces, It will make dust of anyone on whom it falls."
This was the dream; the interpretation we shall also give in the king's presence. You, O king, are the king of kings; to you the God of heaven has given dominion and strength, power and glory; men, wild beasts, and birds of the air, wherever they may dwell, he has handed over to you, making you ruler over them all; you are the head of gold. Another kingdom shall take your place, inferior to yours, then a third kingdom, of bronze, which shall rule over the whole earth. There shall be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron; it shall break in pieces and subdue all these others, just as iron breaks in pieces and crushes everything else. The feet and toes you saw, partly of potter's tile and partly of iron, mean that it shall be a divided kingdom, but yet have some of the hardness of iron. As you saw the iron mixed with clay tile, and the toes partly iron and partly tile, the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. The iron mixed with clay tile means that they shall seal their alliances by intermarriage, but they shall not stay united, any more than iron mixes with clay. In the lifetime of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed or delivered up to another people; rather, it shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and put an end to them, and it shall stand forever. That is the meaning of the stone you saw hewn from the mountain without a hand being put to it, which broke in pieces the tile, iron, bronze, silver, and gold. The great God has revealed to the king what shall be in the future; this is exactly what you dreamed, and its meaning is sure.

Isaiah 21:9
Here he comes now: a single chariot, a pair of horses; He calls out and says, 'Fallen, fallen is Babylon' And all the images of her gods are smashed to the ground.' O my people who have been threshed, beaten on my threshing floor! What I have heard from the Lord of hosts.

Isaiah 10:33
Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, lops off the boughs with terrible violence; The tall of stature are felled, and the lofty ones brought low; The forest thickets are felled with the axe, and Lebanon in its splendor falls.

Revelation 18:8
Therefore, her plagues will come in one day, pestilence, grief, and famine; she will be consumed by fire. For mighty is the Lord God who judges her. The kings of the earth who had intercourse with her in their wantonness will weep and mourn over her when they see the smoke of her pyre. They will keep their distance for fear of the torment inflicted on her, and they will say: 'Alas, alas, great city, Babylon, mighty city. In one hour your judgment has come.'

2 Samuel 23:3

Hello Musing,

God describes a ‘morning star’ as a ruler over men on earth. In fact, even Jesus does not seem to take on the title 'Morning Star’ until the Book of Revelation, where Jesus Returns as King and Ruler of the world (Revelation 22:16).

In the Book of Jude, Jude is dealing with schismatics in Jesus’ early Christian Church. Jude uses schismatics, Korah, Dathan and Abiram, who attempted to schism God’s Israelite Church, in Moses day, as to how to deal with schismatics. Korah, Dathan and Abiram were ‘morning stars’, in the sense that they were leaders, with authority over others in God’s Israelite Church. However, the domain of authority, of Korah and his band, was no where near God’s authority placed in Moses and Aaron.

‘Morning star’ Moses Anathematized Korah and his band of schismatics. Immediately the earth opened up and all the schismatic ‘morning stars’, Korah and his band, went straight to hell. The Book of Jude seems to be where the title ‘angel’ seems to merge with the title ‘morning star’. God’s ‘morning star’ Moses, hurling fallen ‘morning stars’ Korah and his band of schismatic ‘morning stars’ into hell, sure looks like the great battle of the angels.

Numbers 16:1
Korah, son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi [and Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, son of Pallu, son of Reuben] took two hundred and fifty Israelites who were leaders in the community, members of the council and men of note. They stood before Moses and Aaron, to whom they said, "Enough from you! The whole community, all of them, are holy; the LORD is in their midst. Why then should you set yourselves over the LORD's congregation?"...

...NUM 16:8 Moses also said to Korah, 'Hear, now, you Levites! Are you not satisfied that the God of Israel has singled you out from the community of Israel, to have you draw near him to maintain the LORD's tabernacle, and to attend upon the community and to serve them? He has allowed you and your Levite kinsmen with you to approach him, and yet you seek the priesthood too. It is therefore against the LORD that you and all your faction are conspiring. As for Aaron, what has he done that you should grumble against him?'...

...NUM 16:31 No sooner had he finished saying all this than the ground beneath them split open, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their families [and all of Korah's men] and all their possessions. They went down alive to the nether world with all belonging to them; the earth closed over them, and they perished from the community. But all the Israelites near them fled at their shrieks, saying, "The earth might swallow us too!"
Jude 1:6 The False Teachers.
I wish to remind you, although you know all things, that [the] Lord who once saved a people from the land of Egypt later destroyed those who did not believe. The angels too, who did not keep to their own domain but deserted their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains, in gloom, for the judgment of the great day. Likewise, Sodom, Gomorrah, and the surrounding towns, which, in the same manner as they, indulged in sexual promiscuity and practiced unnatural vice, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

Jude 1:10
These people, however, not only revile what they have no knowledge of but are corrupted through the very things they know by instinct, like brute animals. So much the worse for them! They have taken the road Cain took. They have abandoned themselves to Balaam's error for pay, and like Korah they perish in rebellion. These men are blotches on your Christian banquets. They are wild ocean waves, splashing their shameless deeds abroad like foam, or shooting stars for whom the thick gloom of darkness has been reserved forever.

Numbers 17:5
This cover was to be a reminder to the Israelites that no layman, no one who was not a descendant of Aaron, should approach the altar to offer incense before the LORD, lest he meet the fate of Korah and his band.

Isaiah 14:12 The King of Babylon.
How have you fallen from the heavens, O morning star, son of the dawn! How are you cut down to the ground, you who mowed down the nations! Hello Landon,

You may be happy to know that Satan repents! Well Mr. ‘How have you fallen from the heavens, O morning star, son of the dawn!’, king Nebuchadnezzar, repents, and gives praises to our God! Having God's great prophet Daniel, as king Nebuchadnezzar's counselor, did help, Mr. 'O morning star, son of the dawn!', greatly. When ‘Satan’ is man’s evil human pride, man can choose to reject Satan, and repent to Praise God’s Holy Name!

Daniel 4:15
This is the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, had. Now, Belteshazzar, tell me its meaning. Although none of the wise men in my kingdom can tell me the meaning, you can, because the spirit of the holy God is in you.

Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was appalled for a while, terrified by his thoughts. 'Belteshazzar', the king said to him, 'let not the dream or its meaning terrify you.' 'My lord', Belteshazzar replied, 'this dream should be for your enemies, and its meaning for your foes. The large, strong tree that you saw, with its top touching the heavens, that could be seen by the whole earth, which had beautiful foliage and abundant fruit, providing food for all, under which the wild beasts lived, and in whose branches the birds of the air dwelt, you are that tree, O king, large and strong! Your majesty has become so great as to touch the heavens, and your rule extends over the whole earth. As for the king's vision of a holy sentinel that came down from heaven and proclaimed: 'Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave in the earth its stump and roots, fettered with iron and bronze, in the grass of the field; let him be bathed with the dew of heaven, and let his lot be among wild beasts till seven years pass over him'--this is its meaning, O king; this is the sentence which the Most High has passed upon my lord king: You shall be cast out from among men and dwell with wild beasts; you shall be given grass to eat like an ox and be bathed with the dew of heaven; seven years shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules over the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will. The command that the stump and roots of the tree are to be left means that your kingdom shall be preserved for you, once you have learned it is heaven that rules. Therefore, O king, take my advice; atone for your sins by good deeds, and for your misdeeds by kindness to the poor; then your prosperity will be long.'

All this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar. Twelve months later, as he was walking on the roof of the royal palace in Babylon, the king said, 'Babylon the great! Was it not I, with my great strength, who built it as a royal residence for my splendor and majesty?' While these words were still on the king's lips, a voice spoke from heaven, 'It has been decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar, that your kingdom is taken from you! You shall be cast out from among men, and shall dwell with wild beasts; you shall be given grass to eat like an ox, and seven years shall pass over you, until you learn that the Most High rules over the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will.' At once this was fulfilled. Nebuchadnezzar was cast out from among men, he ate grass like an ox, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven, until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle, and his nails like the claws of a bird.

When this period was over, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes to heaven; my reason was restored to me, and I blessed the Most High, I praised and glorified him who lives forever: His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom endures through all generations. All who live on the earth are counted as nothing; he does as he pleases with the powers of heaven as well as with those who live on the earth. There is no one who can stay his hand or say to him; What have you done?

At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and my splendor returned to me. My nobles and lords sought me out; I was restored to my kingdom, and became much greater than before.
Therefore, I, Nebuchadnezzar, now praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because all his works are right and his ways just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble.

Before I could walk, I was rolling around the kitchen in my wheeled, jumpy, chair. My mother leaned down and started talking to me. I thought to myself, I think she thinks that I should be able to communicate with her. Then I thought, is this person God? Wow! Where did that come from? I was born, instinctively, searching for God.

Bullies on the playground, child abusers, drug cartels, slavery, sex trafficking; where do all these evils come from? God created man in order to have a relationship of mutual love, with man. God gave mankind free will, because what is love if it is not chosen freely. We are created with the capability to know and love our God. So, when a person uses their free will, to choose not to love God, what fills this, created by God, internal heart and soul, connection we share with God? A heart and soul, void of God, starts filling itself with, me, I, greed, lust, power, and all selfishness and sin. Satan is not a two horned, red tailed, demon, with his own consciousness, who jumps into your head and guides you into sin. Satan is a person’s own consciousness, void of God in their heart and soul, that guides a person into selfishness and sin.

So what happens to the rest of mankind, when Satan attains secular power over them? God’s people suffer. The sad reality is, that people suffering persecution from ruthless world leaders, now run to God, to obey and love God with all their hearts and souls, where they would otherwise have abandoned God, if they were free from tyranny. The rise and fall of Israel demonstrates this reality. The Restoration of Israel, where all mankind will live under Messianic Reign, fixes this problem, but that is another thread.

We pray, ‘Oh Lord Jesus Christ, we beg of You to Deliver us from the evil one!’

Acts 26:17
I shall deliver you from this people and from the Gentiles to whom I send you, to open their eyes that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may obtain forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been consecrated by faith in me.
