All your doing is a combination of projection/denial.

Im done. Cary on. Your not worth anymore time.
All you are doing is a combination of ignorance, naivete, projection and denial.

Christ is king. Kings are heads of state. Christ gave people free food and healthcare. Therefore, it is completely in keeping with the teachings of Christ for governments to provide for the citizens they represent. Thus Democrats are following Christ. Those against those practices are not.

I'm done. Carry on. You're not worth anymore time.

we fell on hard times. I admit it. we needed help from the government. yes. medical, food stamps, money for the bathroom stuffs.
But it wasn't a lot. And the requirements were not worth it. around $400 total. Money and stamps, a month. they required any able bodied person to go to a work program for 8 hours a day up to 5 days a week (this varied from case.) now if there were more than one adult in the home, each person would have to do this. so now you have 2 people in one home working 80 hours, total, a week, for $100 a week.

They also paid for childcare if the child wasn't in school. if the child was under the age of 5, you go and get extra food from another program. Over 5, they were in school and got free breakfast and lunch(a special, separate program within the NYC public school system where everyone, regardless of wealth had access to this program). There was an added incentive if you lived in the outer boroughs and worked. But for the most part they wanted you in that program. Because they got paid for you working for pennies on the dollar.

it was depressing and humiliating.

However, once we got off our feet, found a job, without their help, and started refusing their handouts, our lives improved for the better. Of course we still qualified for ACA and got health care, we didn't need them for the food or the bathroom stuffs or anything else. We didn't feel locked into a life that was dragging us down into a state of no return.

Public assistance on that level is worse than a crutch, it's a set of chains. I would rather not suffer that fate again, nor would I wish it on anyone else.

Edit to add: NYC is a Democratic strong hold. this program that I participated in predated Trump. this was a Bloomberg and De Blasio made it worse.

I went through this with Rakhel. I'll tell you that my personal opinion of anyone who pushes someone into the chains of public assistance with public "oversight" of individual actions, up to and including sanctioning someone's health insurance because one found a job without their "help" deserves nothing but my contempt. These programs don't help anyone. No one moves forward following the regulations. Further, if you're Christian and you are pushing for more government interference in your personal mission to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and heal the sick, your own laziness earns my contempt again.

Incorrect. It is each Christian's personal responsibility to do these things without involving Caesar
Thus Democrats are following Christ.
Sure, keep telling yourself that while they push for murder of our most vulnerable.

On the converse, I agree with you, you aren't worth more time.

I grew up poor. Right at the beginning of the food stamp program, though we received what was called commodities from my memory. My father was a medically disabled Korean War veteran, so we had some benefit from that. My mother worked. I went to public schools as a youth. All my advanced degrees are from public universities. I have never felt shame for my history or my families need. We took the available benefits and did something with them. No charity I know of could have provided what we received. Other than primary education, we were not forced to receive them or stay on them. We did not have to stay on the more basic benefits. The benefits provided us the means to move and succeed on our own. At such point my generation no longer needed them and my parents were positioned to give back. As an indication of some of that, I am educated enough to recognize the poor, myopic, biased, divisive and poorly supported argument of the OP.

Get full time or 2 jobs or a room mate. Take responsibility. Move up the ladder. Walmart does pay enough for there workers to buy food. Stop making dumb **** up.
People already work multiple jobs to make ends meet, and many still need food stamps.
It's hard to "move up the ladder" when you are living paycheck to paycheck just to pay for rent and food. Never mind if you have children.
You should get out more. All this "pull yourself up by your bootstrap" is nothing more than a slogan. How about some real solutions? How about providing the means for a person to be able to do that in the first place? Nope, instead you want to cut off their food stamps.

"Through a public records request, Patch obtained a list from the state Department of Social and Health Services of the top 50 companies in the state according to how many employees receive SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) assistance. Walmart ranked No. 1 with nearly 4,000 employees while Amazon, Safeway, McDonald's and Uber were among the nine companies that have at least 1,000 workers receiving SNAP.

"One of the symptoms of low-wage work is these workers showing up on public assistance rolls. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, it's certainly not great. But the issue is their wages are low," said Ian Perry, research and policy associate at the Berkeley Center for Labor Research and Education."

Oh, but you don't want to increase the minimum wage either.

Yea, there priorities are to create jobs for those people on food stamps. Impower the poor, not feed them like babies.
They have jobs and yet they are not empowered. What they need is a wage increase, full-time work and some basic job stability.

Go get a job. Earn your living. Dont depend on others.

Well, that didn't answer my question.

You're not paying attention.

They have jobs.

And you know, everybody who is down and out or who is facing a difficult time in life and requires assistance for a while isn't just some lazy bum who doesn't want to work.
I hate this mentality that some seem to have in that regard. It's an easy way to just cast people off and ignore them as throwaways, and it makes them easier to ignore, I guess. It's a terrible attitude, if you ask me.

You know what "empowered" my mother and got her back on her feet after my father spent all their money, lost our house and went to jail? Actual power, as in the ability to do something to change our lives for the better? Public assistance. Without that, we would have been starving on the streets. It was that little bit of help for a couple of months that allowed my mother (who already worked two jobs at the time - with two kids, mind you) to get back on her feet, and save up a little bit of money for a down payment on a home (a home in which she still lives today), obtain a little more education so that she could get a better job (though she still had to work two jobs) and get her life and her children's lives back on track. My mother is the least lazy person I have ever met in my entire life. She is a hard worker, and she doesn't get much for it. This idea you have in your head where people who need food stamps are lazy bums who are unwilling to work is a judgmental stereotype, and nothing more. Again, it's just any easy way to cast people off as useless, lazy and undeserving of help. And it's gross.

I dont care. No able minded/bodied person should be on food stamps.
Other people care, and thank goodness for that. I don't want to live in your dog-eat-dog world that you think should exist.

The fact of the matter is, that there are able-bodied people who do require food stamps. Instead of waving them off and saying you don't care, this problem actually requires a solution that amounts to more than just cutting off their food stamps.

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat

In yet another example of Christian cruelty, the Bible is convenient tool for those who want to justify cruelty. I believe slave owners used the Bible to justify slavery?

In anycase your lukewarm Biblical argument doesn’t hold up” because the verse is “actually referring to ancient Christians who had stopped working in anticipation of Jesus’ Second Coming,” and is not meant to be some judgement on the poor, as u try to imply.

People tend to misuse this verse. They universalize verses that were for specific situations. This verse was Paul talking to church workers.
