My Thoughts (Choice/Homosexuality)...Long

This is long and for resource rather than debate. It took me awhile to put this together for another site I go off and on these days. I had to paraphrase it and make it objective. Anyway, take your time. It's for your information only.

If we can't control our attraction, why do we think being gay is a choice (paraphrased)?

People think it is a choice because if they agreed that it is not both a choice and temptation to lust, it would challenge their belief and definition of the word homosexuality in their scripture. It may be seen as though it depreciates the nature of their god's ethics rather than challenging the bias and cultural taboo uncomfortableness in which their opinions actually derive. The name for it is cognitive dissonance.

There is nothing wrong with believing same-sex sex is a sin only insofar that they understand the definition (homosexuality-attraction) and disconnect the actions from the people they feel primarily engage in it; it's a form of stereotyping. If they-christian, Bahai, Jewish, Muslim, etc-believed homosexuality (attraction) is not a sin that doesn't belittle the fact that same-sex sex acts are. It's just focusing on the definitions and to whom they apply it not the nature of the act itself.

Another reason is they have a huge focus on the word homosexuality rather than the context in, one, which that word is used, and two, with whom that word does not always apply to. For example, the idea is: scripture says homosexuality is a sin; therefore, homosexuals have same sex sex, as a result, they are sexually born sinners. It would be more appropriate to say (if homosexuality is defined by actions) that Any person who engages in same-sex sex acts are sinners; and All people are sexually born sinners regardless of who they are attracted to.

The religious point of view above is pure discrimination. The word homosexuality used in its actual definition doesn't discredit that same-sex sex is considered sinful. Words never translate 100% from one language to another. Unfortunately, associating these mishaps in language, culture, and time conflicts to people is where the problem actually lies not the semantics of the issue.

Here is an example of definition crisis:
AIDS used to be Gay-Related Immune Deficiency disease in early 1920ish History of HIV and AIDS overview I once saw a commercial on t.v. not even a month ago when the the commercial was informing people of the nature and dangerousness of catching the HIV virus. Then, very faintly, a LGBTQ rainbow flag flew across the screen just long enough to associate gay people with HIV.

Here is something I plucked from the Catechism of the Catholic Church (1992, no less). I replaced the right definitions while keeping the context in which the CCC talks about in relation to homosexuality and sin.

Same-sex sex refers to relations between men or between women who (homosexuality->)experience sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its (Homosexuality) psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents same sex acts as acts of grave depravity, 141 tradition has always declared that "Same sex acts are intrinsically disordered." 142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine effective and sexual complementary. Under no circumstances can they be approved. Catechism of the Catholic Church - The sixth commandment

We're still learning about definitions though.

The idea to alieve these undertoned views is saying that we love the sinner but not the sin but you can't literally love someone you accuse of sin.

i.e. "We love you, but, we don't care for (what we feel) you inherently addicted to do.
Don't worry, we won't judge. We love all people.

The Catholic Church (and a few people here and there I talked to elsewhere surprisingly) still believe you can teach and cure homosexual "tendencies" as they call it: Courage

These are the consequences of people who disagree with same-sex acts by calling it homosexuality thereby put emphasis on homosexual persons. They include:

LOVE

Ephesians 4:2: “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." 1 Peter 4:8: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." John 15:12: “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you."

“Where there is love, nothing is too much trouble and there is always time.” “Love the creatures for the sake of God and not for themselves. You will never become angry or impatient if you love them for the sake of God. Humanity is not perfect. Abdu'l-Bahá Abdu'l-Bahá Quotes (Author of Some Answered Questions)

Just as the soul fills the body, so God fills the world. Just as the soul bears the body, so God endures the world. Just as the soul sees but is not seen, so God sees but is not seen. The Talmud

Same-sex acts are a sin in abrahamic scriptures; that's a given. Homosexuality is not. So, please don't mislabel children and people because of who they call themselves. The consequences are the above I've already mentioned.
