Purpose?

Hello everyone and thanks to all those who have commented on my previous three posts I have just barely been here two days and it appears that I am searching for "purpose"
When I initially signed up for this website I did not realize this was where it was going to go so,.....
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF LIFE? This ought to be interesting LOL

Life is the Education of God's children. We are all Living our lessons. The remarkable thing is that we are doing all this through our free choices.

Finding some sort of role or activity that is rewarding and brings emotional resilience and ethical fulfillment.

Then, it seems to me, that person deserves a bit of attention and probably support.
Okay, I am greatly appreciative of your comments. Thank you

Here's some more light humor on the purpose of life:

Existence defies reason. We should not exist. But we do exist. Since we do exist I think there are two paths of thinking with the question what is the purpose of life. The first path, is a bit nihilistic laced with the idea the Universe is a one-shot sequence of events where things happen as they do and in the end the result is nothing significant or meaningful.

I think the second path is more interesting and more meaningful. The second path is the idea everything that occurs in the Universe happens over and over again until every possible possibility is played out. How events repeat is not as important. Multiverse or multiple dimensions or some kind of cyclical heat-death-rebirth it doesn't matter. Or a recursive Universe where Big Bangs are the results of stars collapsing to black holes in previously existing space-time dimensions. The mechanism is not important. What is important is first accepting the idea of a cyclical existence.

Once you accept the premise of a cyclical existence, then everything that happens in our lives are an integral part of the wholeness of every possibility realized. Meaning for a particular event comes from an event's relationship with every other possibility that could ever occur in the cyclical Universe. God is the physical realization of every possible possibility from nothingness to as long as it takes. God takes His time realizing His omnipotence.

The realization of the significance of our insignificance is the most profound experience we can have. The purpose of life is to participate in the realization of God's omnipotence. What could possibly be more meaningful and divine than being a piece of God's mind?

42 is an answer from a fictional book, HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy, I believe. People often use it on the internet to say that the universe doesn't have an answer or they don't know, so the logical conclusion is what this novel provided - the number 42.

Though, I'm sure there's more depth I can find in this meme, if I had read that book.
In the book, aliens build a supercomputer that works for millions of years (if I remember correctly) on figuring the answer to "The Ultimate Question Of Life, The Universe And Everything". The final answer is 42, and upon hearing this, the aliens realize they can't understand the answer without knowing what the Ultimate Question actually is. So they build a second supercomputer called "Earth" (yes, our planet) designed to figure out the Question. After working for millions of years, mere moments before completing its research, Earth is destroyed by a different alien race...

I'm kind of curious about this asking the universe thing, is the number 42 significant in some way and how do you get your answer from the universe?

The universe won't answer you, that is the point.

As for 42, its quite a famous number first proposed by Douglas Adams in his book The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.

P.s. The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy is the first of a trilogy of five books. I can recommend them as almost ultimate entertainment

Not really sure its a good question to ask :)

Regardless of whether one believe a God exists or not, no one knows his purpose for creating anything. And if one do not believe in a God, its like asking what is the purpose of the universe or a rock for instance. :)

Unless we can go beyond our own universe and somehow see what going on, on the "outside" I doubt we will ever know for certain what the purpose is with anything.

Therefore one's own purpose in life should be, to just be happy without it causing harm to anyone else. Nothing besides that really matters in the end, in my opinion. :D

:) They were surely not very intelligent. First too millions of years to find the answer and then took millions of years to find the question. Dont you think so. Look what we have achieved in a few centuries. :D

I think I read about half that piece of crap.
I'm still waiting for `42` to come, somewhere around the corner,
it might be that next one, my rib does hurt today !

The secret to LIFE is to use the STUFF that it provides,
and waste no more, do no harm there also.
Ahhhh....where are the pure Puritans.

I think, we must first be able to answer "Purpose for whom?"

Thanks for the comments everyone, the question was not necessarily to find the answer but to gather information, in the hope that I can connect the dots in what is a seriously scatterbrained head!

I guess I did not think about the question enough, I suppose I would be looking for the purpose for my life if there is such a thing, I'm not sure I could really do anything about mankind though. Thanks for the comment looking forward to your answer

Free will is not specifically mentioned in the Bible because it doesn't have to be.

If there was no free will then the command in the garden of Eden would have been meaningless, and so was the penalty. It was a case of "if" they ate from the fruit, then death would follow. Conversely, if they didn't eat from the fruit that belonged only to God, then they would not die. There is no mention of death in Eden except for disobedience. So humans used their free will to choose their own destiny....they chose disobedience and death when they could have chosen obedience and life. I believe that we have the same choices.

Well, unless each of us has omnipotent powers to define what our choices may be none of us truly has free will. Sometimes, based on the choices we no control over before us, it is simply not possible to be completely moral.

they chose disobedience and death when they could have chosen obedience and life. I believe that we have the same choices.

It's not clear to me obedience is a strong basis for religion. I think a stronger religion would be one based on voluntary choice as opposed to the threat of what would happen from disobedience. It's like being with a woman. Forcing a woman to be with you out of fear is just not has fulfilling has having a woman wanting to be with you enthusiastically by her own choice. I think the same is true with religion. Any religion truly worth its salt does not need to use fear or coercion in order to get people to participate. A religion's truth should be self-evident as to get people to want to choose to participate.

I would say one purpose of human life is to learn how to treat your fellow beings with as much kindness & compassion as you can muster. The more you practice the better you can manage it.

We are all works-in-progress ...

Wishing you all the best!
