Rainbow Laces

I'm gay -- I never buy any of this stuff. Nor do I attend pride parades or much else, really. Used to, but it got to be overmuch.
Me too brother!

And frankly, the world around me has changed so much since I was a confused gay kid, growing up in a viciously homophobic community, that I don't see much point to that sort of thing any more. They look more like exhibitionism than pride, to me.

Apparently it's rainbow lace day. Yet another gay pride thing.

This is just my opinion, of course, but as a girl who mostly fancies other girls I find this a little silly. If you live in an area where your rights are threatened or diminished, I can maybe understand, but at least where I am in the U.K. I feel mostly safe and really don't feel the need to wear multicolour laces or fly rainbow flags or eat gay pride cereals or however else they do it.

All I see are companies trying to make money by using a minority group to sell products that are basically just laces and cereal and whatever else they decided to stick a rainbow on. It's disgusting, in my opinion, to trivialise it like this and use a targeted group of people to make a profit.

I'm mostly gay, and I don't need your rainbow laces. Please just leave me alone.
Lots of folks = lots of different motives. Some good, some not so good. I hear ya', sis.

Have people been accosting you, mailing you fliers, or personally confronting you in any other manner in an attempt to get you to buy these products? If so, then I truly understand your irritation. If not, then I suggest you lighten up and understand that people have absolutely no obligation to make your day brighter.

Whining about the predispositions of others is to assume people have some responsibility to meet your needs. They don't.

If that's what you took from this then I think you need to read it again.

I can't help but wonder how many of these laces are purchased by actual queers and how many by the "straight, but not narrow" community.
I see it as a easy, inexpensive, way to be supportive. It's clear, but inobtrusive.

Like a tiny little present to all the gay folks you run across every day, even if you don't even talk to them. Just pass them on the street or sit in class or whatever. I like it, although not enough to get any.

You used the term queer ! Oh, the humanity ! You have regressed RF 20 years by saying that.

The new free speech isn't free, yet, for you...............hum.............................Forget I said anything, queer or otherwise.

Yeah, I'm not really into all that stuff, either. It's all consumerist garbage. I just have a rainbow flag in my front window that I mostly put there to **** off my homophobic upstairs neighbor who calls me a "f*****". Mine is in the only place in my neighborhood with one displayed.

Rainbow coat. Thanks 6th Doctor,
Are you the individual in the photos? That might get you moved up a couple of rows toward the bimah unless..... the fashion police move you out into the foyer.

Why shouldnt we complain about a corporatiom profiteering on the struggles of a community? Fake support is all it is if thats how you show solidarity. Its a way to make money from people who apparently arent content with actions showimg their support. They have to to say "look at me."

Do you realize the LGBT members here aren't exactly thrilled, excited, or even supporting and condoning it? And you, Mr. White Cis Straight is going to criticize one particular person for not supporting corporate garbage?
