A question from a new jw

gnostic

The Lost One
JW is a religious organization where you believe in specific doctrines taught clergies or ministry, AND what they can teach is organised by your leaders and council. If there is any research to be done, is in Bible study, whatever morals they are willing to teach you, and their specific brand of theology.

JW is not science school or science organisation, so my guess, is that your leaders will only tolerate what they set out for you to learn.

The amount of misinformation and propaganda JW used towards science, only revealed they are anti-science organisation.

As the JW website says:

"We respect the achievements of science and believe in scientific findings that are supported by evidence."
source

So I imagine you should trust it just as much as non-JWs do.

If they were honest that quote would read,
We respect the achievements of science and believe in scientific findings that are supported by our leaders interpretation of the Bible”

You know something I don't? Please share. (I'm not that familiar with the JWs.)

I’m a little confused. You’ve posted that you now consider yourself to be a member of the Jehovah Witnesses, but you keep posting questions that indicate that you really do not know or understand much about that group.

I’m not trying to dissuade you from membership in that group if that is where you believe you should be, but don’t you think you should have a firmer grasp of the teachings before you make the commitment?

Yet so many fields of science are disbelieved despite facts. The facts are just denied.
Science is often seen as some sort of massive conspiracy.

Shouldn't you already know JW before you had join them?

I am confused why you are asking here. What does JW have to do with science?

JW as a religious organisation and as a cult disagree with a number of areas with science, not because they are knowledgeable about science, but they have certain "preferences" about what the leadership and council think is science or isn't science.

They have no authority in science, because JW is a religious group, not science group. It is like comparing an apple with a car. They are nothing alike.

Well, for once Skwim and I agree on something......wonder of wonders...:D

Why do you think people ask if you "believe" in evolution? Its not proven and is actually not provable. It takes faith to believe what you cannot prove.

JW's are not science deniers, but we have more faith in God than in any man of science who wants to put forward a hypothesis that is only an idea that happens to be popular. Unless there is proof that the science is fact rather than theory, you simply have the choice of another belief system. My belief is in God...what about you?

Here is a range of scientific topics for you to check out...:) There is lots of information on the subject.
Science — Watchtower ONLINE LIBRARY

And with regard to those who want to bad mouth JW's by posting apostate stuff that is all lies and twisted half-truths, remember that Jesus was the son of God and very few had a good word to say about him....the people of his own nation had him executed even though the Roman authorities found him "NOT GUILTY" of any capital offense...

If they can do that to the son of God, imagine what they would do to imperfect humans....? Don't believe anything you hear unless it from the horse's mouth.....and I don't mean ex-JW's....they are the worst. One sided 'victim's' sob stories that are designed to give you a false impression. Always get both sides and if you can't don't listen to any of it. Get among JW's and see for yourself Frank. Have a Bible study and find out if this is what you really want to be part of. That's what I did. I saw for myself and made up my own mind.

I have just attended a three day International Convention of JW's where thousands of brothers and sisters from all over the world came together in a wonderful display of love and unity, these have taken place in many nations over the last year.
What we have is unique.....like nothing I ever experienced in Christendom.

Yet so many fields of science are disbelieved despite facts. The facts are just denied.

There are no facts that prove the theory of evolution. No facts confirming how life originated. You can't deny what does not exist. You have assertions and assumptions...these are not facts.

Science is often seen as some sort of massive conspiracy.

You know the funny thing about conspiracy theories is that many of them are actually true....they are just hidden among the more ridiculous things so you'll lump them all in together.....how would you know?

Oh my, not understanding evidence is the only thing that keeps this from being a lie. There are facts confirming abiogenesis, just not enough to fully explain the concept. There are no facts confirming creation by a magical deity. There are countless facts confirming the theory of evolution. So many that it is considered to be both a fact and a theory, just like gravity.

Huh? Who are you asking?

And Frank, sorry, but you are not a JW. if you were, you’d have searched for the answer on JW.org. Or asked some brother at the Kingdom Hall you attend. (Have you even been to a meeting yet?)

Keep in mind: nothing in this man-made world is designed to draw you closer to Jehovah God. Just the opposite. 1 John 5:19

Now, this Earth is another story, there are many beautiful places and creatures that remind us of Jehovah’s love, and can draw us to Him.

Curious....what is your view of Adam and Eve? Were they real people, or just allegorical?

It's OK RabbiO....you cannot just rock up to Kingdom Hall and call yourself a JW. You have to study the Bible and establish your faith in the God that it teaches about.....being determined to follow through on his commands......Getting a firm grip on what the Bible teaches before you make a commitment is what we insist on.

:) How does one convert to Judaism? I imagine its much the same...Christendom seems to think just calling yourself a Christian makes you one....calling yourself Jewish doesn't make you Jewish, does it?

This is why I'm skeptical. The ToE is one of the best supported theories in science, yet JW "respecters of scientific fact" dismiss them. Now it's true there are no facts that prove the ToE, but there are no facts to prove the germ theory or heliocentrism, either. As you've been told here a dozen times, science never 'proves' anything, it just amasses facts. The ToE is based on facts.

Oh please....germ theory has been proven. What is theoretical about it?
The discovery of the germ theory of disease

And you are going to tell me that there is no way to prove that the earth orbits the sun....seriously? What century do you live in?

How you can put evolution in the same category as those, is beyond me.

When you have to say "might have" or "could have"....you have no facts, just assertions....and you need faith to believe in those too, you know. Popular opinion never made something right. Amassing suggestions is what theoretical science does.....those are not facts. People will believe what they want to believe.....
