(Note: This is a guest post by Andrea Taylor from LifeCoachHub.com.)

No matter where you are in life, complacency is your enemy.

You diminish your happiness by staying inside of your comfort zone and refusing to experience life fully.

Happiness difficult times

Leads us here -

Have you ever been pessimistic about a problem or life situation you faced? Have you noticed yourself inundated with negative thoughts at some point in your life? Most of us have. Life can be a test, especially of our minds and, specifically, our outlooks and mindsets. Ask yourself this: do you consider yourself to be a positive or negative person?

All human beings will, at some time or another, face tough challenges, obstacles and heartache in their lives. How we view and react to these situations is a choice we make, thankfully. We can choose to be either positive or negative when facing any predicament.

How to Be Happy in Difficult Situations

Experiencing challenges and problems are part of life. There is nobody alive who has been spared hardship. However, some people seem to cope with bad situations better than others. Their overall happiness does not seem as compromised when unfavorable things happen. How do these people manage to stay happy even when they are facing difficult times?

Like you, I have experienced tough situations in my life. I have been hurt by others, hurt the feelings of others, had arguments with people I love, made bad decisions that brought undesirable consequences, lost money in a failing business, experienced the death of a loved one, been injured in an accident, the list goes on. Looking back at all the difficult situations I have experienced earlier in my life, I now realize that I could have handled each event better. I also know that my overall level of happiness did not have to suffer as much as it did. I would like to share with you what I have learned about being happy even when bad things occur.

Happiness comfort zone

One of the challenges that we all face as human beings is to exit our comfort zones. And yes, asking questions in conferences is not the most comfortable thing to do. We feel nice and cosy to spend time in the places we know, with people we know, and a conference isn’t necessarily one of these places. But to really have unforgettable experiences, we need to leave our comfort zones and discover the world.

Secret to true happiness -

A few ...

Another major key to happiness is learning to take 100 percent responsibility for everything that happens in your life. That means giving up all blaming and complaining about how the world is. It’s coming to grips with the idea that you are indeed the one who is creating your reality by the thoughts you think, the images you hold in your mind, the feelings you feel, the choices you make and the actions you do or don’t take. Once you truly get this, you can begin to create the life you want through intentionally using the power of your mind.

The four simple science-based actions are as follows:

Three Good Things: At the end of each day, write down three good things that happened that day, including why those things were good

Kindness Day: On one day this week, do as many extra acts of kindness for others as possible (try to do at least 5)

Calm Your Mind: Follow the free Headspace "Take 10" program for ten minutes each day at www.headspace.com

Move Your Body: Do something physically active (and enjoyable!) for at least 10 minutes each day

Human condition happiness

The reason we ask ‘what is happiness?’ is that most of what we call happiness is actually just the feeling adults get when we find relief from the pain and stress of living under the duress of the human condition. That condition can be described as human’s capacity for ‘good and evil’—we know that the ideals are to be cooperative and selfless, yet we humans are capable of incredible aggression and selfishness, and being unable to explain that dilemma has left the human race with a deep, subconscious sense of insecurity and even guilt.

It’s understandable then that when we achieve moments of relief from the human condition, we associate that relief with happiness. When we buy some new clothes, or have a drink of beer at the pub, or our football team wins a game, or we eat a meal at an expensive restaurant, we have just for that moment been able to distract ourselves from this subconscious insecurity we carry with us all the time; alternatively we have found a way to effectively refute this sense of guilt by saying, ‘I am good because I won that race’, or ‘I am good, because I am the prettiest girl in the room’, or ‘I am good because I just made a lot of money’, but however we do it, what we are really doing is finding some temporary relief from the human condition. Because they are just superficial strategies, they leave our deeper unhappiness, and its cause, unaddressed. But again, in the absence of the real explanation of our species’ underlying insecurity, we humans have had no option but to do these things.

Embrace your flaws!

When you start learning to embrace your flaws and accept that you are imperfect, you also start opening up to the imperfections of others. You start being less impatient and irritated by the things that others do and which you normally find as being unpleasant traits of character. You are less prone to be judgmental and this opens up more space to accept and welcome in others exactly how they are without much expectation.

Things to Let Go Reach Unlimited Happiness - from editing that ego page I made in May this year :)

Stress is something most of us can identify with on a daily basis. When is the last time you said you were too busy or that you didn’t have time to do something because you were so stressed out? One of the best tools to combat daily stress is the LET GO List.

A Let Go List has saved me multiple times on my journey to self-love and happiness. A Let Go List is kind of like a gratitude list, but instead of listing out what you are thankful for, you list what you want to let go of. I refer to my Let Go List daily. This has helped me maintain a recovered life free of drugs and depression. I also do this at the start of every New Year and the results are powerful.

Your list could include people, habits, beliefs, or situations you want to release. A Let Go List is something to carry with you when you are feeling stuck or stressed out.

The Worst Things to Say to Someone Who Is Depressed

eg-

Having someone tell you to try harder when you are already giving it your best effort can be demoralizing and may make a person with depression feel their situation is hopeless.

There are many reasons depression develops and a person cannot necessarily control all of the risk factors involved. Once a person has become depressed, it's not a matter of just "talking themselves out of" a low mood.

Like diabetes or hypothyroidism, depression can happen because the body is not making enough of substance it needs to function properly.1 A person with diabetes cannot will their body to make more insulin, and a person experiencing depression due to low levels of neurotransmitters can't simply "think" themselves into having more.

Similar to how people with diabetes might need treatment with insulin, people who have depression need medical intervention and support. For some people, this may mean taking medications that address chemical imbalances that can contribute to the condition.
