Could you successfully pretend to be a girl/boy?

As a girl/boy I think that I could successfully fake being a boy/girl (not that I would).

Well...on the phone people used to call me ma'am even before my transition...:p
Which has caused several problems at work...

When I take the plane and people check my documents they call me ma'am

It's the hat.
@Tumah told me I should buy a spodik or shtreimel. Unfortunately I am not a millionaire yet. But when I am and I can afford one, I promise I will make every effort to look like this,

Clearly they are neither for comfort nor for keeping one's ears warm nor gnat free. Its like with a Hanukah lamp which is never used for keeping rooms bright. They remind me of graduation caps.

Or it could be "Have a nice day Maaaaaa'aaaaaaam" depending on how long the person's vowels are sounded.

Neat! ... but ... Of ‘spodiks’ and ‘shtreimels’
"This is the rule: Hassidic groups that trace their roots to Poland wear the taller, narrower and darker spodik; groups that originate in Galicia, Hungary or Romania wear the shorter, wider and browner shtreimel. This regal headgear is reserved for Shabbat and festivals, and is worn by married men. Less well-known is the kolpik – a lighter version of the spodik, worn by some rebbes during the week and by some rebbes’ sons on Shabbat, before marriage."

I've had a beard since 1976. It would make the pretence difficult.

But even before that, when I was in high school, my girlfriend tried to get me to wear a dress for something or another. I put it on briefly, but I just couldn't do it. I couldn't stand wearing women's clothing. I pulled it off after a couple of minutes, much to her annoyance.

And white socks for Shabbat. Yep, I'm aware ;)

I'm not that attached to my current idea of self. Just not sure how authentic the roll would be initially. I'd be like a guy acting how I think a women acts. After a while though I think if society treats you as the opposite sex, it would become a natural part of who you are.

Tough times I think for those who change genders that don't look the part. Society will constantly remind you of the roll you "ought" to be playing.

While I'm frequently mistaken for a man online where people don't know me, there is no way I could possibly pass for a man in person, even if a large team of the top plastic surgeons of the world was assigned to the case.

In all seriousness if I really wanted to pass for a boy I think I could. I already wear boxer briefs and sometimes chest binders. I would like to have short hair but my fam wouldn't like it and I hesitate. I could probably stick on a pair of trousers and shirt and some clever makeup.

No way, I would be one ugly woman. Sadly I know from experience. My father had a lesbian sister. I never new her because at that time that was a huge no no. But when she died I saw her obituary. She looked a hell of a lot like my father. My Dad is not bad looking at all as a man. But he too would make an unattractive woman.

No, because ultimately you know you're faking it. If you managed to deceive yourself that's pretty much the definition of delusion.

But, people aren't as clever with that as they think typically. It's human nature to be over-confident a bit until reality snaps you on the nose with the newspaper, so to speak.

Anyway, given enough time you'll betray your disguise -- you'll have to readjust those balls sometime, and real men don't have periods or hide their farts in mixed causal company they just make jokes about them. :D
