TRIGGER WARNING: I'm prochoice now.

Revelation 3:10
I reviewed the evidence and while I have never been pregnant, I support abortion rights. I am autistic, and if my birth control fails, I will have an abortion, because I would rather kill myself, than birth an autistic child. I don't think the fetus is a person until it's brain is fully active. I think I should apologize for being antichoice in the past.

You'd kill your own child rather than just avoid potentially fertile sex?

How about getting your tubes tied?

You'd kill your own kid?

I'm pro life, but don't think the government should be making that choice for you.

My son will be 4 in a month. He's on the spectrum but he's a very sweet, smart, and happy little boy. We love and adore him very much. I am pro choice, but I find autism as a reason for terminating to be a very poor one. But again, how the hell would you be able to diagnose a fetus with this regardless?

I don't think one can reasonnably compare a zygote or a fetus to a child. A child is an independant person with whome you can interact and educate. It has a will, an emotional, social and even intellectual life. A fetus or a zygote doesn't have any of those things. I don't think the comparison is very apt.

Of course, you hould assume that a person who doesn't want children will use first and foremost contraception methods to avoid pregnancy and use abortions only as a last resort (of course provided contraception are available and the person knows how to use them).

Get your tubes tied. Problem solved. Also very pro-eugenics of you.

Is autism even genetic in nature? I don't know. By the way I am pro-choice too. I just would not want you to get an abortion based upon incorrect knowledge.

Edit: Rats, it appears to be strongly genetic:

Genetic studies intend to help people with autism, not wipe them out

That's good that you are pro-choice now, but I really don't know if that's compatible with contemporary Christianity, at least not without a degree of heterodox interpretation.

Deciding at the zygote level is a sanitized and harmless way of sacrificing what society otherwise declares as destined to exist, despite resource limits. Though I'd be careful however, as I kind of feel that our society is working toward defining the pertinent terms declaring the types of individuals it wants. Society itself may play the role of evolutionary selector.

Strong cases can be made that non-neurotypicals can add a lot to society, but perhaps it's not in a phase where that is as easy on them

It's very difficult to find a doctor who will tie the tubes of a young woman who has not had children. "You may meet a man who wants to have children" is the line most often given for refusal of sterilization. Also, it is not unusual for the tubes to grow back, especially in younger women. (I know a woman who had a baby after tubal ligation.)

You have obviously thought much on this to change your mind. You are happy with your choice, good for you.

Although i would not have an abortion myself (too old now anyway) i i would defend any woman who choses abortion.

The linked article illuminates why I loathe the claim...
"Abortion is a decision made between a woman & her doctor."
Barsh flimshaw!
The decision belongs to the body's owner
(in this case, a pregnant woman) & no other.

Caution:
I'm not saying a doctor should be forced to perform the procedure.

Agreed.
Can I take some LSD now ?
Or is that right only for women ?

I spoke generally.
A pregnant woman choosing to abort or not is just one example of bodily autonomy.

Oh, enjoy your Link Sausage Deluxe.
