So, I'm the biggest Mussolini fan I know when I learned all he did to halt Hitler's advances in Chzeclosovakia, how he despised the attack on Poland, how he put his troops at the Austrian border delaying Hitler's annexation of Austria and declared he would join the allies if they declared war on him when he did that, how he stayed out of the war as long as he could despite Hitler sending him threats to invade Italy for being unfaithful to the pact of steel, psychological warfare from Hitler with almost daily letters glorifying Germany's victories, pressure from the Italian people to grab some spoils and not be a wimp, reading how much his wife and he despised Hitler and thought him to be an idiot, how he loved Chamberlain, Gandhi, and Saint Francis of Assissi, how he created the Independent Vatican City state, how the Doctrine of Fascism is deeply spiritual, condemns selfishness, is not racist, is not violent, is ingenious, and countless other discoveries lead me to believe I have a responsibility to defend and promote a man so misunderstood, lied about, and whose good deeds are forgotten.

His enemies rewrote history about him, urinated on his corpse, hung his mistress next to him who had done no wrong, denied him a trial, forged documents, destroyed documents, and attributed many falsehoods and false quotes to him, killed him in cold blood without a trial, and people pretending to be his followers betrayed him once it became convenient, because Italy was hated by the Soviet Union and about to fall to Communism when Mussolini showed up and miraculously rose to power, ended democracy, brought a wedding between Church and state, and gave the Vatican independence.

Non-Catholics and lukewarm Catholics secretly resented him all a long, even hated him, yet paid him lip service because he was so tough and unstoppable, even pressuring him to enter World War 2 for the chances to see him sink, even at the cost of Italian lives. I have the same birthday as his wife Rachel, and see all the evidence that what she is saying is true, and she doesn't cover for his faults. For instance, when I google quotes by Mussolini, almost everything that comes up makes him sound EXTREMELY stupid and a lover of violence.

However, when I read a book written by him, it is indeed extremely the opposite, extremely spiritual, deeply religious, rational, inspiring, and in my opinion, without serious fault, and far more peaceful and rational than the Bible or Quran, leading me to believe that most of the quotes that show up as his aren't really his, and the stupid claims like he raped a virgin and declared peace to be a catastrophe totally asinine. All of this has made me feel I have a duty to defend a man so misunderstood and hated.

So, I keep a detailed defense of Mussolini on the outside of my door and march on Capitol Hill each day in honor of Mussolini's March on his capitol. Sometimes I bring cardboard with Mussolini pictures and ask people if they have a minute for Mussolini and fascism. I'm going to stop asking them if they have a minute and just start talking because everyone immediately assumes I'm hateful, a lover of Hitler, or a racist, but I have received the nickname "Mussolini 2".

Well, that is actually kind of funny because my probation officer is Ethiopian, and the thing Mussolini did that I most object to is his invasion of Ethiopia. So, my probation officer visits me and sees the Mussolini pictures on the outside of my door and her eyes got wide and a look of horror when I defended him, but I like her and she likes me, but for someone called "Mussolini 2" what are the odds of being at the mercy of an Ethiopian probation officer haha?

I will never approve of Mussolini's invasion of Ethiopia but believe he had altruistic intentions.

Mussolini believed wars of aggression were okay for Italy as long as they relieved suffering and made an area less impoverished, and improved the quality of life in the end, and Ethiopia was so full of poor leadership that he thought he could do a better job, creating less suffering and better use of Ethiopia's resources. Another justification for the attack was an incident during December 1934, between Italian and Abyssinian troops at the Wal-Wal Oasis on the border between Abyssinian Somaliland, where 200 soldiers lost their lives. Both parties were exonerated in the incident, much to the disgust of Mussolini, as he felt Abyssinia should have been held accountable for the incident.

Mussolini saw it as an opportunity to provide land for unemployed Italians and also acquire more mineral resources to fight off the effects of the Great Depression.

Mussolini wanted to compete with other European Empires and was under pressure from Italians to attack Ethiopia because of a previous war where Ethiopia defeated Italy. Mussolini also believed that creating a 20th century Roman Empire would in the end bring more joy and less suffering to the people and better uproot communism. The use of gas was to bring quick victory, and lets not forget that Nukes on Japan were not considered war crimes. After the war, Mussolini was hoping Ethiopia would be governed better and there be less suffering. The Solomonic dynasty of the Ethiopian Empire was very corrupt and terrible at governing the lands of the Ethiopian Empire.

Mussolini did not believe the Solomonic dynasty really descended from Solomon of Israel or existed during 10th century BC as they claimed, and thought it was one big fairy tale and scam with no historical evidence to back up the claims, so resented them, and the dynasty ran the country poorly, committed much violence in parts of modern-day Sudan and South Sudan, and coastal areas of the Red sea and Gulf of Aden which Mussolini thought they should be held accountable for, and wished to put an end to a ridiculous dynasty that cost a lot of Italian lives as well as killing an Italian officer shortly before the invasion.

Claimants to the throne in Ethiopia often fought each other, causing what Mussolini believed would overall cause more bloodshed than if they were part of an Italian Empire.

These weren't reasons for the war, but Mussolini also was mystified by Ethiopia for it's claim to have the original Ark of the covenant and that it would be nifty if the Italian Empire possessed the Ark. Mussolini loved the Lion being a Leo himself, was painted with a lion, loved the Lion symbolism of Jesus, said better to be a lion for one day than a lamb for 100 years, he liked the Lion on the Ethiopian flag, was interested in it's history, and thought the land to be sacred and mystical.

Also, on a side note, when Hitler's troops asked why the Italians fought so well, so valiantly, and fought like Germans against the Soviets and were pathetic in Greece, they replied "Fascists have reason to fight Soviets. We and the Duce have no desire to fight the Greeks, so it isn't worth returning in body bags over, and we constantly have no reason why we are there in the first place".

@PopeADope , you're attributing nobility to the invasion of Abyssinia when I'm not aware of any.
I'm pretty well versed in the history if you want to discuss that further. Or any other point you made really, including the relationship between Mussolini and Hitler, or Mussolini and Pius (either of them).

Forewarning, though, I'm not likely to be as kind to his memory as you.

Have you read Rachel Mussolini's book about him?

Except for the fact that he declared war on the UK and France

Because he didn't want Germany to invade Italy and it looks like Germany was going to win the war, so he was under pressure to grab some spoils and land.

Also, when Mussolini fought to keep Spain Catholic, Hitler helped him. France and Great Britain refused to help defeat atheist communism in the Spanish Civil war, so Mussolini felt in debt to Germany.

France was very leftist and enemies of Mussolini found refuge in France, so Mussolini had reason for not siding with them.

Hitler did threaten an invasion of Italy, so Mussolini knew he had to enter the war, and he was hoping for a united anti-communist Europe. Mussolini admired Hitlers hatred for communism and saw what looked like certain victory for Germany and a chance to restore the Roman Empire.

Because he didn't want Germany to invade Italy and it looks like Germany was going to win the war, so he was under pressure to grab some spoils and land.

So after all about standing up to Hitler and about how wrong Hitler's plan were he folded. Ergo the principles were dropped.

Also, when Mussolini fought to keep Spain Catholic, Hitler helped him.

Sure. However the other side in that war was communist

France and Great Britain refused to help defeat atheist communism in the Spanish Civil war, so Mussolini felt in debt to Germany.

Sure. France and the UK were war wary. France had major communist movements. Both had policies of appeasements as they thought it would prevent another WW. They were wrong.

Hitler did threaten an invasion of Italy, so Mussolini knew he had to enter the war, and he was hoping for a united anti-communist Europe.

This is nonsense. France had already fallen prior to the declaration of war. That unity was gone 9 months prior. He picked the faction that would save his skin, nothing more. All you have done is acknowledge all the bluster from him was just that, bluster no principles to stand by.

Mussolini admired Hitlers hatred for communism and saw what looked like certain victory for Germany and a chance to restore the Roman Empire.

Ergo Mussolini was an expansionist himself thus took the chance at a land grab.

Nope. Are you suggesting a single source is the best way of finding truth?
Rachel was kind, humble, loved peace, and points out her husband's faults. she knew him since he was 7 and declares that the people that were urinating on him throwing stones at him and hanging him upside down and screaming hate and pissing on his grave, were some of the people that pretended to be fascist but hated Mussolini for making Italy so Catholic.

These people did everything they could do to make Mussolini looks stupid and I can prove it. one way is I look up all of the quotes of Mussolini on the internet and they make him look very stupid.

When I read the doctrine of fascism that was written by him, it is rational, intelligent, eloquence, and ingenious, spiritual and religious, and not racist or bigoted are violent.

So why are all the quotes that are attributed to him online make him look like a lover of violence and evil, but a book written about makes him look the opposite from someone who knew him since he was seven.

His favorite people who are Saint Francis. His favorite visitor was Gandhi and Gandhi loved him. Books written by Mussolini show that he was very intelligent and loved peace and humanity, and the man who wrote the doctrine of fascism is not the man who made so many of the quotes that are attributed to him. I can tell it is two different people speaking.

Mussolini did everything he could to keep peace and when he entered the war he was very pale and nervous and sad. he put his hand on his wife's shoulder and said Hitler will be at our gates and invade us. For our children and our children's children and for the glory of Rome we must enter this war one way or the other. Hitler helped us keep Spain Catholic and fight communism. We can start an anti-bolshevik United Europe and fights militant atheism.

Hitler is tolerant of Christianity. hitler helped me defend Catholicism in Spain when monasteries were being burned down, nuns were being raped, and priest hands were being cut off so they couldn't say Mass.

I look to France and great Britain to help me and they refused. Hitler is the lesser of two evils and is willing to defend Christianity and spirituality and religion in the face of atheism.

If I join Hitler I can also restore the Roman Empire and be a Catholic Caesar like Constantine, and we can bring prayer to schools in countries that are brainwashed by militant atheist Marxist and Bolsheviks.

If we join hitler he has the best military in the world and we can fight the influence of the Soviet Union in so many other countries and possibly go to Moscow.

Hitler has won nothing but victory after victory and blitzed through Nations like a knife through butter. Perhaps this is a necessary evil and God is on his side.

I am only a human being and I must enter this war. I might as well enter the side that has never lost a battle yet and the only country that helps me in Spain to fight communism.

Mussolini was pale and shaking when he spoke these words to his wife. He saw that this war was a greater war than world war 1. He saw that this war was like Europe committing suicide.

He read all of the news about how the Germans treated the countries they conquered. He said I don't want my country to be like Poland and Czechoslovakia and all those other nations. he will blitz through France in days they will win and blitz through Italy for not having common sense, Hitler said Mussolini was being unfaithful to The pact of steel.

Hitler saw how tough Mussolini looked, then saw how tender Mussolini's heart was in person, and saw it as a weakness and made fun of him.

Hitler was playing psychological warfare on him the whole time. Hitler lost no battles and he won victory against multiple nations in very short amount of time and his troops didn't even seem to be tired.

Great Britain was the only one left and they did nothing but lose defeat after defeat and retreat. Great Britain was never Italy's friend and Nazi scientists are developing rockets that could go across the English channel and hit them.

The luftwaffle was bombing the hell out of Britain. Why should mussolini Ally himself with Britain, when is it was Hitler who helped him defend Catholicism in Spain, and great Britain lost every single battle against Hitler?

it looks like Hitler was going to make short work of great Britain like he made short work of every other Nation he invaded.

It seems like it was miraculous. Mussolini did what any man would do. He saw the opportunity to grab some land for his country and restore the Roman Empire and become a Caesar of an anti-communist block.

Mussolini did a decision that was actually very wise. He told hitler to build his technology and rest not invade the Soviet Union and do everything he could to not get America involved.

Mussolini criticized the Nazis for how they treated their Nations they occupied. Mussolini was terrified of that happening to his Nation and thought of his children and other people's children.

If hitler listens to Mussolini's advice, he would have won the war.

sorry, I was speaking into a phone so the words came out wrong at times, I will do better when I have more time oh, I have to go to work.
