I'm blaming my phone for that, yes all members do have a veto and macrons was because he regards the Balkans as "a ticking time bomb" but the the others want expansion.

Senior EU officials have reacted angrily after a handful of member states, led by France, blocked Albania and North Macedonia from starting membership talks.

Leaders of the bloc's 28 states spent hours in heated debate over the issue but failed to agree, diplomats said.

The failure came despite a recommendation from the European Commission and the European Parliament.

Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker said it was "a major historic mistake".

"I hope it will only be temporary," he said.

EU Council President Donald Tusk echoed his sentiments, saying: "It's not a failure, it's a mistake. I feel really embarrassed.
So, they are not joining.

The people have already spoken. The bureaucrats didn't like the outcome. Now they whine and want another vote hoping for a different outcome.
If they did get a different outcome, wouldn't that be just as much "the people speaking" as the first referendum?

I approve Lord Buckethead's suggestion:

We should have a referendum on whether or not to have a referendum.

That may sound like a stupid idea but this whole situation is a circus. Nobody's happy, everybody thinks everybody else is an idiot, we're having a general election every other day, one of the top google searches following the referendum result was "What is the EU?" and what leaving will actually look like is apparently being determined by reading the entrails of a goat.

Right now, the only way to determine whether we should have another referendum is to hold a referendum on whether to have a referendum. If that still doesn't work then the only sensible option is to divide ourselves into a few dozen separate kingdoms and spend the rest of time setting fire to one another's villages.

No deal should have been on the table from the beginning imo,we would have been out ages ago.
Ignorant yank asking questions here, about stuff he doesn't claim to understand.

Why hasn't Brexit been done? Why didn't it happen a month or two after the people made their will clear in the referendum?

Why didn't Boris Johnson just do it on October 31st? It's been years now.
If the British populace want Brexit, no matter what, then why did they want another extension?

Why does the government keep putting off the "Will of the People"?
It's been years.

The British people have no say in the small aspects, only whether we leave and we can vote for a party that claims this that and the other, that's all. Long story short, both sides (Brit Gov. and E.U.) want a deal but no deal that suits both has been reached. Basically, the British folk want a straight out. No customs union, no backpay, no free movement, nothing that would tie us to the E.U. in any way so we can form trade deals and so on with other countries without the E.U. interfering. The E.U. sees us, in that case, as a competitor and this doesn't suit them. The government's proposed deal is horrible by pretty much anyone's standards and was voted down time and time again by MPs and now here we are.

Can't the EU vote against the Brexiters continuing to dither? Why does the EU continue to let England use the good spots? The parts that they like and want? When the Brexiters have already decided that the EU isn't in the Brexiters best interests and that they're Leaving?

Why is England still in the EU? It's been years now.

But, as you've pointed out. The decision was made years ago.
England is leaving.
Why doesn't Boris Johnson just do it? He can't make a deal.
Just Leave.

Ha ha.
I'm American.
My Irish ancestors would have been horrified if you'd called them British. They left your country to escape you English. They got on boats, with nothing but the clothes on their backs, to escape the English.

Good for them. If you don't like us so much, why do you give a damn about this? You could just, I dunno, not bother us?

That doesn't matter, we're one nation and the vote was won by Leave.
Yeah,
And when the Irish and Scots decide, by popular vote, to Leave.
You will be three countries.
Have fun with that. Here in the USA, it was called "The Civil War".

I've already said I'd support Scotland and Northern Ireland leaving. That's on them, not us. We were three countries before the 1600s and we can be again.

I don't care much.
I see this as the English trashing "Great Britain", which will be economically advantageous to the USA. Y'all can be sovereign, like Ghana and Uruguay and Thailand.

The future will be dominated by four world powers. Russia, EU, China, and USA.
Who's b*tch do Brits want to be? You aren't a superpower any more.

So you basically just came to this thread to trash English folk.

I'm done responding to you.
