Why did Jesus speak in parables?

Absolutely, but not just the kingdom of god. Most parables seem to deal with different moral concepts and such. I can attest that it's easier to understand and remember things when they're put into story-form. Jesus was a smart dude, that's for sure. "Like a skinny Buddha, with a beard" (Take off from Anchorman, hehe)

But my question was why did he only want his disciples to understand? Why didn't he want everyone to understand?

He went out of the house/Temple to the sea, got in a boat and cast out to the sea/Nations. This is the openning of the Kingdom to the gentile.

His disciples would not fully understand until Shavuot and beyond, Peter needed a kick in the pants and a sign from heaven. He finally did get it! Aren't you glad? ;)

You didn't answer the question at all, though, Ronald.

OH, Yes I did! Anyone knowing the Whole Bible, knows that HaShem blinds the Hebrews, so that they can not see and turn to him for healing!

He went out of the house/Temple, left the Hebrews on the shore and casts out to sea/Nations/Gentiles. Opening the Gospel to the Gentile Nations.

Do you require a more indepth teaching? ;)

Who the heck is HaShem?

Sorry! I thought you were familar with Judeo-Chrisrian writings.
The Hebrew is careful to not profane the name of God, so they use euphamisims to keep from speaking the name of God. HaShem in Hebrew is "The Name" it is like Yeshua using the Kingdom of Heaven, meaning Kingdom of God.

Mt. 13:11-13 "To you it is given-- 13 This is why I speak to them in parables.
HaShem closed the Hebrew's eyes and opened up the Kingdom to the Gentiles.
Out of his mouth he said it is not given to them(Hebrews) lest they turn to him to be healed. So it seems he wouldn't reveal this to his audience. Right?

The Bible gives two noteworthy reasons why Jesus used illustrations. First, his doing so fulfilled prophecy. The apostle Matthew wrote: "Jesus spoke to the crowds by illustrations. Indeed, without an illustration he would not speak to them; that there might be fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet who said: ‘I will open my mouth with illustrations.’" (Matthew 13:34, 35) "The prophet" quoted by Matthew was the composer of Psalm 78:2. That psalmist wrote under the inspiration of God’s spirit centuries before Jesus’ birth. Is it not remarkable that hundreds of years in advance, Jehovah determined that his Son would teach with illustrations?

Second, Jesus himself explained that he used illustrations to sift out those whose hearts were unresponsive. After he related to "great crowds" the parable of the sower, his disciples asked: "Why is it you speak to them by the use of illustrations?" Jesus answered: "To you it is granted to understand the sacred secrets of the kingdom of the heavens, but to those people it is not granted. This is why I speak to them by the use of illustrations, because, looking, they look in vain, and hearing, they hear in vain, neither do they get the sense of it; and toward them the prophecy of Isaiah is having fulfillment, which says, ‘By hearing, you will hear but by no means get the sense of it; and, looking, you will look but by no means see. For the heart of this people has grown unreceptive.’"—Matthew 13:2, 10, 11, 13-15; Isaiah 6:9, 10.

What was it about Jesus’ illustrations that separated people? In some cases, his listeners had to dig in order to get the full meaning of his words. Humble individuals were moved to ask for more information. (Matthew 13:36; Mark 4:34) Jesus’ illustrations, then, revealed truth to those whose hearts hungered for it; at the same time, his illustrations concealed truth from those with proud hearts. What a remarkable teacher Jesus was!

Aw, come on people! Jesus spoke in parables because people are so stinking farm animal stupid that they wouldn't recognise the truth if it were a big ol' fish slapping them in the face with it's tail. :D

Surealgurl... it's time to realise that our Lord sometimes spoke with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek. ;) The man had a unique sense of humor that is lost on most. Most likely because it's not a big fish slapping them in the face with it's tail.

As an evangelical tool, it is priceless! We are still talking about them 2000 years later trying to figure out if he was talking about us! The answer is probably at www.get-a-clue.com (he was!). Somehow, in spite of it's inherent subtlety, God chose this method over the fish. Go figure.
