Did Jesus Commit Suicide?

Who says so? The fact is, Jesus is considered to have died.

Matthew 27:48-50
48 Quickly, one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled the sponge with sour wine and tied the sponge to a stick. Then he used the stick to give the sponge to Jesus to get a drink from it. 49 But the others said, “Don’t bother him. We want to see if Elijah will come to save him.”

50 Again Jesus cried out loudly and then died.
Died means dead.

1 Corinthians 15:4
He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.

So, whether he stayed dead or not is immaterial to one killing themselves.

.

Yes, that is what they sell to make it look dramatic. Feeble minds like drama.
In fact, He merely took a few days off. According to the myth, at least.

From USLEGAL.COM

"Suicide Law and Legal Definition: 'Suicide is the taking of one's own life.' "

So as I see it, the question is, Did Jesus intentionally bring about, or intentionally fail to stop, events that would bring about his death?

I think one has to consider one of the reasons for his being on earth. Mark 10 says:

Mark 10:45
45 Follow my example: Even the Son of Man did not come for people to serve him. He came to serve others and to give his life to save many people.”
So Jesus, obviously aware of his mission, would have intentionally done what he had to in order to accomplish it. He set out to "give his life"; eventually committing suicide by a form of "suicide by cop."

(Suicide by cop or suicide by police is a suicide method in which an individual deliberately behaves in such a way as to provoke a lethal response from a public safety or law enforcement officer.)

Technically, he might have. He had probably had the power to turn any roman solider trying to capture him to stone or whatever, but consciously chose not to do that. Pretty much the equivalent of someone choosing to sink in a lake even though they know how to swim. Clearly Jesus allowed himself to be captured

For example, cancer patients. They may know that cancer is going to take them. Does their death then become a suicide because they knew when and how they were going to die?

Yeah but they would lack the control jesus would have. Jesus could have turned all the roman swords and spears into jello, becoming a captive was his choice. Or maybe god's choice, as jesus said that he doesn't do what he wants, but what the father wants. Think it through a little more

So if a mountaineer dies on climb, it's suicide. Not a tragedy. If a firefighter dies on the job, it's suicide. Not someone's heroic sacrifice, attempting to save life and property. And using the suicide by cop example. An Officer gets killed in a suicide by cop incident, it's suicide. Your right after all they all knew the risks. Maybe I'm wrong then secular morality is of higher ethical value

If a climber dies while scaling a mountain, he cannot magically turn the ground into a pillow, nor could a firefighter spontaneously create water to cover his body by thinking it. Jesus technically could do those things, and chose not to in the situation he found himself.

So, in order to prove yourself right. You're going pretend to know what the divine, something you don't believe in, can do?

Ok. Let's take the actual definition of suicide, and compare it to the scenario. Suicide is killing yourself on purpose, dying at your own hand. (suicide - Dictionary Definition)

Now did Jesus die by his own hand? No. So there's your answer.

The definition of a martyr (Someone who suffers, or is even killed, for his or her political or religious beliefs) better fits Jesus. (martyr - Dictionary Definition)

Logically, we can conclude that Jesus did not in fact, commit suicide, but rather became a martyr.

The cornerstone of his ministry was to die, as some sacrifice to "release the holy spirit" (another ball of wax). He killed himself on purpose.

I missed the passage where Jesus claims to be; all powerful, all knowing. Like I said it's not my faith. So post us a link

What on Earth are you talking about?

I have no idea where you're getting this "He'd likely be rendered unconscious rather than killed" stuff from, and Jesus wasn't resurrected until after the crucifixion.

Christians believe Jesus Christ was resurrected after his crucifixion ; however, His resurrection might have been myth rather than historical fact. There's no way of knowing if some extraordinary Jewish rabbi a couple of millenniums ago actually had really come back from the dead or if he recovered after being rendered unconscious by getting crucified . Heck, for all we know maybe Christ's crucifixion and resurrection could have been staged or maybe Christ's resurrection is just simply a myth.

He could walk on water, raise the dead etc. make bread and fish exist out of nowhere.

You forgot heal. So could anyone who leart the the skill in Egypt at the time. Or at lest that's how it would appear to those that hadn't

Anyway what gave you the idea a channel for power, has power?

That's it. Just a simple four word question.

.

I think it would probably be the most unbelievable suicide, if one would nail himself to cross to die. Even Epstein’s “suicide” is very believable in comparison to that. :D

But what do you think, if Mafia comes to you and says, “give your money or die”. You don’t give and they kill you and then judge lets them go freely, because you committed suicide by not agreeing with their threat. Is the judgment correct?

That's not exactly true.
Even the Jews have called themselves sons of God. (John 8:41)
Also in the Old Testament the Jews and also the angels are called sons of God.

Jesus was not executed because he called himself a Son of God, but because he claimed to be God himself.
(John 10:33)
The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

One must also consider what Jesus meant by "Son of God". The term "Son of God" can be interpreted as a title or literally. And Jesus meant it literally; and just as the Son of Man is man, so also the Son of God is God.
Where in the Bible did Christ explicitly call himself God ?

Generally they do I thought. He must have had the power to release himself from his circumstances, but could not as that would go against the will of god. Though his power to do so most likely tempted him. If Jesus had escaped, god would have made him powerless. So perhaps it wasn't a suicide for that fact, because god would have rejected him and possibly make him die for good

You do know you're claiming to know the mind of God
