What is the best way to show friendship to a Hindu at Divali for people from other views?

As a Chrisitian I gave some lamps to some graduate students who needed for light in their apartments. I thought that was friendly and consistent with consistent with the festival of light?

Are there any suggestions for how people of other views might respectfully show frielndship to people at Divali?

Is there a good Pumpkin carving that might go with it with a light inside?

Just hang out and offer neighbours or whoever you’re offering friendship to some (vegetarian) food. Maybe some sweets if you like. Or wander into your local temple, appropriately dressed of course. Modest but smart casual wear is fine.
Or I dunno be friendly I guess.

That was very sweet of you, and smart also. Very appropriate. They need a lighted apartment especially during Diwali.

Just wish them

Happy Diwali

or in Sanskrit

Shubha Deepaavalee

(shubha = auspicious, full of goodness. Deep = light, typically a flame of the oil lamp. Deepaavali = a string of lamps, as was lit all through streets of AyodhyA to welcome Shri RAma and Seeta back home after victory against evil (dark).)

Pumpkin is a symbol of the good harvest, so in that sense, yes, using a pumpkin to make a deepavali lamp is nice - but better if it is shaped like a diwali clay lamp..

Why is carved pumpkin a symbol of Halloween

I know a girl named Shubha and a guy named Shubam
(but they don't know each other)

The carved pumpkin frown an old custom of people who feared evil spirits
Christians changed it and instead carved pumping with frowns as the spirits were bound to earth. The felt the spirits were redeemed in Christ and free now because of the cross so they gave them smiles instead.

At least that is one explanation i heard
