Three Days and Three Nights

Best guess. Died just before sunset Wednesday. Rose from tomb sometime after sunset Saturday. Three full day and three full nights. What is your best guess?
Whatever the day Jesus was put on the Cross.
But Jesus could not and did die on the Cross. There is, therefore. no question of Jesus rising from the dead and hence no question of Jesus' ascension to the skies.
Right, please?

Regards

Thanks for your opinion. Many people do not agree and those who believe the Bible know otherwise.

That's an issue for a different topic. Perhaps you could start one.

Mathew 12:40
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Bible Gateway passage: Matthew 12:40 - King James Version
I don't agree with one here:
The topic of the thread "Three Days and Three Nights" is with reference to the Sign of Jonah that Jesus had promised to show to the adulterous Jews.
So the essence of the Sign of Jonah was that Jonah was alive all along:
  • before going in the belly of the fish, Jonah was alive
  • while in the belly of the fish, Jonah did not die, so Jesus must Jesus.
  • Jonah came out of the belly of the fish alive, so must Jesus.
  • Jonah did not rise from the dead, so must Jesus not rise from the physically dead.
  • Jonah did not ascend to heaven after the episode , so must Jesus not ascend to skies.
That is the essence of the Sign of Jonah, so whatever the count of days, Jesus did not die on the Cross. that must remain in focus.

Right, please?

Regards

Perhaps for a different topic, but not for this one.

Yes, the purpose of the story of Jonah was to show that Jonah spent 3 full days and 3 full nights in the fish and Jesus would spend 3 full days and 3 full nights in the tomb.

No, this thread is about three days and three nights. What could be more appropriate?

lostwanderingsoul,
re: "No, this thread is about three days and three nights."

As I've told you previously, the topic title and OP were poorly stated with regard to the intent of the topic. However, they were clarified in a number of subsequent posts and most recently in post# 302:

1. The Messiah said that He would be three days and three nights in the "heart of the earth"

2. There are those who think that the crucifixion took place on the 6th day of the week with the resurrection taking place on the 1st day of the week.

3. Of those, there are some who think that the "heart of the earth" is referring to the tomb.

4. A 6th day of the week crucifixion/1st day of the week resurrection allows for only 2 nights to be involved.

5. To account for the lack of a 3rd night, there may be some of those mentioned above who say that the Messiah was employing common figure of speech/colloquial language.

6. I'm simply asking anyone who may fall in that group of believers if they might provide examples to support that belief of commonality; i.e., instances where a daytime or a night time was forecast or said to be involved with an event when no part of the daytime or no part of the night time could have occurred. That is the only thing with which this topic is concerned.

Everything that occurs either occurs during a day time or a night time. No event could occur when it was not either day or night. There are no examples.

lostwanderingsoul,
re: "There are no examples."

Since you're not a believer in a 6th day of the week crucifixion this topic does not apply to you.

Someone new visiting this topic may know of examples. And that "someone new" needs to be someone who believes the crucifixion took place on the 6th day of the week with a 1st day of the week resurrection, and who thinks that the "heart of the earth" is referring to the tomb, and who tries to explain the lack of a 3rd night by saying that the Messiah was employing common figure of speech/colloquial language of the period.

OK, thanks. But you never know; there may be someone in the future visiting this topic who believes the crucifixion took place on the 6th day of the week, and who thinks the "heart of the earth" refers to the tomb, and who tries to explain the lack of a third night by say that the Messiah was employing common figure of speech/colloquial language.

MANY people believe yhis but that does not make it true.

But so far no one visiting this topic has said they believe this, much less provided examples of commonality.
