Has the forum changed?

Spirit of Light

Be who ever you want
The last week or so I have felt the forum has changed (maybe for longer too), and not for the better. It does not feel like a religious forum as it used to do earlier this year.

Have others also felt this?

And if there is a religious topic, it is sure to be beaten down by those who do not believe anything and it is more a competition to bring down religious beliefs. The happiness in the forum is gone, at least to me it is.

It's always been a riot zone. Just pick your weapon of choice and join the carnage.
No :) I refuse to us "Weapons" to stay in the forum as a member.
Yes there has always been some heated argument in the forum, but not in the way it does now, (in the time i been a member)

Brother, I have been a member in different forums for over 20 years and I learned that there are two types of posters those of interest in personal learning and those who have agenda.

I haven't noticed a change - can you be a little more specific?

Bushido!!!
Used to play 'Bushido' as a child on the Amiga 500 at 10 years old, and Valhalla at 6 years old on the ZX Spectrum... So then moving on to religious forums was inevitable at 26 years old.

In my opinion. :innocent:

Have you not noticed certain OP that is super negative toward religious figures or religions or their way of living as a religious person, especially Islam has been targeted a lot in the last weeks. Personally, I do not feel comfortable with this form of critique.
Of course, I am not allowed to give names of the threads or those who created the thread i speak of, it would be against the rules of this forum to do so.

Most of the older members will tell you that there is a kind of "war of attrition" that goes on the forum. One groups struggles with another and most people views are pretty stable. They don't change necessarily in the course of one debate but require a longer time span to really be affected. (e.g. some members do go from atheist to religious or vice versa, but it can take months and years of exploration and self-discovery). The longer you're here, the more you spot patterns as certain topics get debated over and over again and you get to know people better. It can be very wearing and being constantly bombarded by one thing after another can get disorientating and unsettling.

Certain kinds of news events, such as terrorist attacks and mass shootings, do have a very clear and sudden effect on debates on the forum and it can get ugly as people react defensively to the situation. Once you've seen it a few times, you'll recognise it when it starts up. But the general tone is almost certainly a reflection of what is going offline, both in the wider world and in people's lives. I believe that since the election of 2015-2016, politics has become a much more aggressive priority on the forum, but without hard data to back it up, it's hard to prove.

It's worth occasionally taking a break from the forum as it can get "inside your head" with a kind of tunnel vision. You may focus and obsess on certain things which may later not have the importance and urgency they may first appear to have. It's easy to get sucked in because the passion of it is addictive. I think it happens to all of us, particularly when we discuss subjects we care about. So it's sometimes best to log off, go for a walk, read a good book or listen to a moving piece of music as a space for mental and spiritual healing.

Basically, you're welfare comes first. ;)

Yes i do agree with you, and a new brake from the forum is probably what will happen to me.

Sadly it look to be to the worse now
Sorry, I just don't see it. You've been here just under a year now, several of us including me, are nearing or over 10 years. Yes it changes, but personally I would say it is more ebb and flow than a one way direction for the worse. I agree with the person who said that if we want change, to do it yourself. It helps me to post the occasional try to be funny topic, or to ignore the incessant atheist versus theist back and forth. It's just a never-ending movie. Different actors, same movie.

How's the weather in Norway? Is it worth the money to go on a cruise there to one of those stunningly beautiful fjords?

There are clear profiles among us. Many have our own favorite subjects, and sure, criticism of Islaam is a frequent theme. So are parallels and contrasts among creeds, criticism of Christianity, proposition of specific readings of certain scriptures. So is passionate defense of Islaam, or of competing takes on it. So are Christian themes.

Many themes arise and are forgotten spontaneous, sometimes in cycles.

As I understand it, the acknowledgement that free-for-alls can be unconfortable is a main reason why there are so many different areas in these forums. Including the DIRs, which I personally feel to have outlasted their welcome - but others disagree.

Of course, I am not allowed to give names of the threads or those who created the thread i speak of, it would be against the rules of this forum to do so.

I am not sure about that, but you are definitely welcome to voice your concerns and be specific in the Site Feedback area. Since threads there are private, you will not have to be so careful in avoiding pinpointing threads or people.
