Can God be proven to exist?

Maybe this may not come as a high level discussion, but I just wish to know some views on "Can God be proven to exist". I am a theist, and I do personally believe that this proving God exists thing can never be done. I also believe that various people have varying concepts of God and most of us judge by our personal standards.

  1. But as an Atheist, what would you think is evidence of a God to exist?
  2. Also, as a theist, what would you accept as evidence?
  3. And if you have the patience to write a little more, what is the concept of God you have in your mind?
Thank you in advance.

As an atheist, I would want proof that stands up to scrutiny and is repeatable.
Currently it could be argued there is more proof that Harry Potter exists than there is that God exists.

What would that 'proof' be? Good question.
The trouble is, what is god? He/she is different to different people.
Is he the creator of the universe? Maybe the god could create a new solar system.
Is he omnipresent? Maybe he could be in two (or more) places at once.
If he is all caring and loving; maybe he could cure childhood cancer.

You get the idea, it'd have to be an impressive proof because his followers claim impressive things for him.

Sorry, I don't understand??
38"Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.” 39But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here. 42The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here." Mat.12
Gnostic world. Basically means spiritual enlightenment , the whole process of it. Jesus as teacher of mysteries referred to them. Sign of Jonah, three day journey, the 'fig tree' (bodhi tree).

Starting at the last question, I don't have a god concept. It seems baseless to me as I wouldn't share that concept with anyone else, as you already pointed out.
I'm an Agnostic, so the question about proof/evidence doesn't really apply. As long as there is no agreed upon definition of god, I could prove / disprove god any way I'd like, someone would simply say it didn't apply to their kind of god.

If a god does exist and wanted to be in touch with humans you would think it would make its existence clear to all so there could be no doubt in anyone's mind of its existence. The fact there is no evidence, in all probability means it is a figment of the human imagination.

God had been 'in touch with humans' all the times.

I think the first step that we need is to experience all believers believing in the same God. At once.

Lacking that, any other “evidence” is a waste of time.

I suppose you have faith and I don't.

How? Could you give me an example how God can make his existence clear?

Falsifiable and indipendentely verifiatiable evidence

Correct. I think any kind of evidence for anything should be as you said.

I was asking for a more specific idea of evidence. Im no scientist, but lets say evidence that fire exists is to light something and show it. So what kind of evidence do you expect?

I know this sounds like a very immature question. Maybe you think "God could just appear like a giant and talk". You see, different people, even atheists have very different ideas about it so thats why im asking.

A Sign would be if all those who get inspired
"of" god about how to interpret the bible would
get inspired to the same meaning.

Well, yes. At least that would show that when they have those personal relationships with the almighty, they do not only talk about the weather, or the soccer season.
