Corrupt Border Control

There may be more to the initial "border crossing" than the one sided reporting implies, i dont know the area.

However i have had the misfortune to face US border protection at airports on a couple of occasions. As has several people i know who confirm my opinion. I can say with hand on heart that US customs and border protection personel are the most obnoxious, power crazed bunch of little hitlers I have ever been faced with?

This is saying something profound considering i have, in the past had 6 Kalashnikovs cocked and pointed at me for tripping a metal detector at what was an eastern bloc airport.

I had two sub machine guns pointed at me at an airport (took a wrong turn in a pretty backwards country).

Only time I was ever called 'Sir' but heard it as a very real threat.

So you've got me well and truly beaten. 6 assault rifles is impressive. You must look dangerous.

For all the people (aka suckers who swallow every sensationalized news story that comes out. ;0p) who knee jerkingly jumped to conclusions and swallowed this sensationalistic fake news story Hook Line & Sinker......

Here's a bit of an update for ya...

Jailed British tourists entered US 'deliberately'

Yea. .. ... The real truth comes out.

It's good however to see that few of us at least, could see that there's almost always more to the story than the 'news' typically gives you.

Maybe some people should learn the lesson to stop accepting ''news" as truthful and reliable when we all know that half of them today* are hyped sensationalist tripe in order to get subscriptions , ratings, and views.

Lesson learned? If it sounds sensationalist, it usually is.

*Half of them might be a understatement actually in light we live in this era of sensationalistic media , considerably void of any journalistic integrity and honesty.

I am sorry, but once again it makes little sense. Trust me that is not an easy mistake to make. It is not even a possible mistake for most of the border up there. I have seen it. Roads as a general rule do not simply to through. The fence is minimal, but you could not accidentally drive your car through it. And then to fly them from the West coast almost all the way to the east coast? I think there is more to this story.
This is what the border looks like along a lot of the area near Abbotsford. No fence. One road is in the US, one road is in Canada, and the ditch is what marks the border. In some places, there isn't even that much of a ditch.

"Deliberately crossed a ditch" <> "deliberately entered the US"

I just posted a typical photo of the border in that area. Can you tell me by looking at it which side is Canada and which side is the US?

Even better: can you point out anything in that photo that suggests that the ditch marks an international border?

Personally, the only way I knew is because I zoomed in on the line where Google Maps drew the border.

I know. That does not quite match the story being told. I am still waiting to hear from the other side.

You might want to take some of your own advice,
as the story is far from all out yet.

One detail I could not help noticing is how much
of the Brits' complaint is so obviously written for
them by an attorney.

They have white concrete mounted posts along the roadway bit like milemarkers that clearly State Canada. There's no way they could have traveled down the road and not know the Border was there. While small, the border posts could be clearly seen.

You could be right. There probably is still more to the story.

Show me where these white posts are in that photo of the border.

Of course there is. Layers. The exact details!

Who are they? Why were they denied entry?
Who were the other people?

What were they doing on that isolated non
tourist place, with a baby along?

And finally...who* is prepared to eat crow
after taking a firm stand (see "scumbag")
about the story if it comes out that things
were opposite to what they thought?

*taking bets on it being nobody?

Just for fun, why dont you go to google maps and
zoom along that road for a bit, and see if you
can find where there are indications of there
being a border. I'd think there would be some,
and that you could not even get on that road
sans some sort of notice that a border was
involved. But I dunno, I've never been there.

I wonder what sort of animal it was that they said
they had to try to avoid.

Since this arrest is fairly local I did hear a bit about it on my car radio and I am going to see if I can find anything more on it. It sounds like the story given does not match the claims of border police. They crossed a ditch slowly and some of the people in the car had already been denied entry. In other words according to customs they crossed illegally and purposefully. I should be able to confirm this if correct.

EDIT: Here we go:

"U.S. officials assert the family of Eileen and David Connors crossed the border on purpose, noting their vehicle was observed “slowly and deliberately” driving through a ditch to cross into U.S. territory in Blaine on Oct. 2. Four adults and three children were inside.

“During processing, record checks revealed two of the adults were previously denied travel authorization to come to the United States,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Tuesday in a statement to The Associated Press."

British family who crossed border into Washington state decry treatment in U.S. detention center

Please note, that story far more accurately represents what was shown as far as just a drainage ditch between roads than the story of the British couple.

That story makes it sound like they crossed the ditch via an unmarked road.

And it doesn't say when the people in the car were refused entry. It may very well have been on some previous trip years ago.

Zactly. Way early for scurrilous remarks like "scumbag"
or taking sides in any other way.

I think that you are now beginning to bend over backwards for the Brits. The border patrol account is of slowly and deliberately crossing. No avoiding of animals. In the picture that you posted it matches the border patrol account. It does not match the account of the OP story.
