Well now we know. We have it from the horse's mouth, as they say. Nobody, anywhere, is as wise as is the Donald. Read his tweet, from 8:38 this morning:

"As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!). They must, with Europe and others, watch over..."

He forgot "humble".

Should have said "in my great and unmatched humble wisdom". Then it would have been ok. :D

Wow, nothing more, just wow.

It's stuff like that is why he needs a psych eval, because it appears his grasp on reality is slipping. He get's in trouble asking Ukraine to investigate Biden, and then asks China to right after that. And now he's claiming to have obliterated Turkey's economy, which is clearly something he's never done, and it's on top of an extremely grandiose and blatantly delusional thing to think about oneself.

Y'know, had anybody ELSE said this, everybody (well, the liberals, anyway) would have known that he was engaging in verbal irony. I would have known that it was verbal irony even if Nancy Pelosi had said it, or indeed, anybody on the left.

But...well....

Liberals only recognize verbal irony when they engage in it, or can excuse one of their own because of it. It is astounding that anybody at all took that statement as anything BUT verbal irony.

I thought maybe he is engaging in a bit of self-mockery, but can't read minds. It's something I might do, but I'm not Trump.

Donald's "great and unmatched wisdom"? His great and unmatched wisdom? How arrogant of him! How absolutely arrogant! He is totally, arrogantly, ignoring MY great and unmatched wisdom!

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Well Trump is well known to say stuff off the fly like that.

What he does is more important than what he says as far as I'm concerned.

Actually, it's something all of us do...and Trump is included in the 'all of us.'

In fact, Occam's Razor would tell anybody that it is FAR more likely that Trump was engaging in verbal irony...and self mockery...than that he was serious.

Certainly, as I have said, I would figure that if anybody else had said it, no matter how much I disliked the person or his/her politics.

Did he ever have any grasp of reality? What I like is his amazing answers where he keeps repeating the same words over and over and sounding like a Saturday Night routine only funnier if it wasn't so scary.

Yes like setting back environmental gains so far made in the face of global warming. Oh and alienating the us allies. Oh and having government officials stay at his properties. And on and on and on.

He did. Even before and since his presidency, from campaign to now, we can see a difference. He struggled to finish a thought then, but claiming to have destroyed Turkey's economy is more than his usual style of turning a tadpole into something bigger than Godzilla.

Are you Americans trying to distract us from our own clown in chief?

That is sort of nice, but I wish you had not.

I'm of the opinion that being a genuine Trump supporter at this juncture indicates deep irrationality, ignorance, bigotry, or moral bankruptcy--and often a combination of more than one of these factors. Consequently, I don't believe that this flagrantly narcissistic tweet will do much in the grand scheme of things to dissuade many current Trump supporters from endorsing him.

Well, that's okay then. Not like Poe's law might strike, and any other nations might not get that he was being ironic.

While hyperbole, this does actually relate to US policy re: tariffs on economic restrictions on Turkey that (perhaps) helped contribute to currency/debt crisis 2018.

It's obviously just a response to criticisms for abandoning US' Kurdish partners to Turkey and isn't unreasonable on its own.
