Bernie Sanders Had Heart Attack, His Doctors Say as He Leaves Hospital

"Mr. Sanders, 78, had entered the hospital on Tuesday night after experiencing chest pain at a campaign event, and doctors had inserted two stents in a blocked artery, a relatively common procedure. But the campaign did not confirm that Mr. Sanders had had a heart attack until Friday, inviting questions about his condition, and his campaign’s transparency, as he remained off the campaign trail this week."

So we weren't told about Sanders' heart attack until after he had left the hospital. We were told earlier in the week that all he had was a "blocked artery" and some chest "discomfort".

Bernie Sanders hospitalized for blocked artery, campaign events canceled

"During a campaign event yesterday evening, Sen. Sanders experienced some chest discomfort. Following medical evaluation and testing he was found to have a blockage in one artery and two stents were successfully inserted," said Sanders’ senior adviser Jeff Weaver on Wednesday in a statement.

Gotta say, this feels really slimy to me. The Sanders campaign had to have known the full extent of the medical emergency almost as soon as he was admitted to the hospital and examined. Yet, they refused to reveal the full extent of Sanders' condition until a Friday night when nobody's watching the news. I think this will cripple the Sanders campaign twofold. On the one hand, we all know Sanders is old, and having a heart attack and being easily the oldest man ever elected president (should he win) is going to make a lot of people question whether or not he can even finish out his first term. On the other hand, this lack of transparency about critical information relating to Sanders' health has to be a big turn-off to a lot of people.

Sorry to hear about the episode, this will end his presidential run. Strictly political.

Yankees ability to invest lots of concern in trivial headlines in the face of widespread government corruption will always baffle me.

You know it doesn't make any sense using the word Yankee these days. Nobody recognizes that term anymore, except maybe some back wood redneck hillbillies still caring about the civil war.

I brought that up as well. It's archaic. It's like calling people knaves or scalawags.
Whenever I hear the term, I think of either A.) the baseball team, B.) 1700's colonists, or C.) 1800's northern states.

It shows a real disconnect from the U.S.

America has revealed its a society of ageist ******** who look at a number instead of actual fitness, presidents and candidates do sometimes have heart attacks, it seems minor, and legally and ethically it's none of our business. If he were deemed unfit, it would be up to him to choose of he disclosed why ornnot. I don't blame him for not being the most upfront and direct about it while he was having a medical crisis.

Or the Brits. We're still called Yanks.

I like the term, I still use Yankee myself.

Think of it as the Village Green preservation Society.

Who would be a yankee though? Is that synonymous with American?
Actually you would be surprised. Yankee is still used quite a bit down south to designate people up north, but I think it's more widely used by the Brits to designate Americans overall.

I'm happy to call myself a Yankee. I think it's a pretty cool term.

All Americans. The song Yankee Doodle was the unofficial U.S. anthem prior to the Star Spangled Banner. It started as a satirical ditty British soldiers came up with to mock the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Not remotely fazed, the Americans responded by owning it, coming up with other lyrics.

No biggie. Presidents and presidential candidates have been keeping their health information secret since we first started electing presidents.

Shoot, just how many pictures of Roosevelt do we have of him IN a wheelchair? How many of him standing up...when he literally COULD NOT STAND?

Yeah, this is political, and I wouldn't vote for Bernie Sanders...but not because he had a heart attack or was older than me (though that last is a real consideration at this stage; a two term president he absolutely would not be...) but not for this. Give the state of modern medicine and cardiac care...pfft. He's fine.

In Canada we still call you guys Yanks. And there is that song from WWII, “the Yanks are coming”, which referred to Americans in general.

I love Sanders, and I personally have no problem voting for him, but I fear this might be the end of his presidential aspirations.

I don't know, my dad had a clogged artery, and he was back on his feet the next day. The types of heart surgeries these days are with tiny robotic strings. They've come a long way.

...With that said, I still hope Sanders drops out. :)

I suspect that this might be the end of his presidential aspirations.

Indeed! She's out in front of him in every poll I have seen. Unfortunately (from my standpoint), Biden is out in front of her.

I currently prefer Warren to everyone else for the job. If Biden is the candidate, I will of course vote for him, but with significantly less enthusiasm than I would vote for Warren (or Sanders).
