Will the Republican Party Die in 2020?

What groups would make up the new party? Would those groups amount to a majority of the electorate?

Well, assuming that the white racist and militaristic elements have diminished, then you might see a multicultural, multireligious, multiracial party which is largely conservative on social issues.

Without the GOP to unite them against the common enemy, I would predict various elements within the current Democratic marriage of convenience to start to fall out. (I recall that in 2008, when a lot of minority voters in California came out to vote for Obama, it also led to a defeat of a proposition in that state legalizing gay marriage.)

There really isn't a heck of a lot in common between upper class, mostly white "SJWs" and the far less affluent and more religious/traditional non-white voting blocs which have comprised the Democratic Party.

I'm still waiting for all these snowflakes to leave the U.S. like they promised when Trump won the first time. Maybe a victory lap 2nd term will finish em off?!?! We can hope?!?!
Snowflakes are all unique beautiful crystalline structures, which when they come together create mountains which cover the landscape. Contrast these with lard-brains, which have no beauty at all.

How'd that work out for ya in 2016? ;)
My gut feeling in 2016 was that something was wrong with predictions
of a Hillary landslide. (It was due to seeing so much much more support
for Trump by the yard sign measure.)
I also recall a couple decades ago when Democrats I knew lamented
their party being out of power. Guess what.....their party came back
into power once again. So my unscientific feeling is that there's a low
probability that Pubs will disappear.

Looking at things scientifically, there's a law of physics...
"Nature abhors a political vacuum."
Let's assume that Dems have the presidency & Congress.
Things are never perfect, so there would be weakness to attack.
A party offering an alternative will find power ripe for the plucking.
All they need do is adapt to changing times....as they've long done.
I guarantee (money back) that we'll always have The Big Two
at each other's throats.

Will the Republican Party die in 2020? Of course, there will always be a Republican Party in a technical sense. I mean is 2020 the year the Republicans become America's permanent minority party, incapable -- or nearly incapable -- of winning the House, the Senate, or the Presidency?

The famous Democratic pollster, Stanley Greenberg, believes he has amassed evidence showing that 2020 will be another Blue Wave year. He thinks the Democrats will take the House, the Senate, and the Presidency in a landslide.

Now, of course, Trumpettes are saying just the opposite. They are saying Trump will win and the Republicans will keep the Senate and regain the House.

But on what grounds are they saying such things?

Trumpettes are by and large contemptuous of the sciences and instead much more often than not base their beliefs on their gut feelings, their emotions, and their "vast personal experience" -- and they are downright proud of their disdain for polling and other scientific measures.

Scientific evidence versus gut feelings. I guess 2020 will show which are better predictors of the truth.

I do not believe the Republican party will die but it will have to change drastically. Their core group is rather large and will continue to support them but the core group will not be enough to win contested elections at least until the Democrats do something majorly bad. I have been saying that for the next 16 years unless the Democrats make a major mistake or the Republicans make a major change, Washington will be controlled by the Democrats. This is also worrying to me as the Democrats may have cart blanche and may do bad things as well. We really need a third party but I don't see that happening as the core of each group is rather obstinate.

Are you trying to imply that prior to the election you did not believe Clinton would win?

Or could this gut feeling you refer to be caused by hindsight?

(Don’t make me go down into the RF basement and dig through the archives, I will do it if I have to, but it is scary down there.)

Speculation of how the U.S. political landscape will appear in a year from now is practically useless.

I look at bumper stickers myself. I actually thought that Hillary might win, but not by much.

However, I wasn't terribly shocked by the actual results. Although some people really were shocked to the point of apoplexy. They were so certain that Hillary was going to win, when they saw the actual results, they just blew a fuse. It's like they just snapped or something. There was even talk of some people needing psychological counseling after such trauma.

To this day, I still think of the whole thing as somewhat bizarre, but I guess that's America.

I implied nothing.
But I began to think that Trump had better than a negligible chance to win.

Perhaps you don't recall my posts about this right before the election.
I too saw the predictions for Hillary's shoe in. But then I noticed the
paucity of yard signs for Hillary, & the plethora for Trump as I traveled
around eastern Ameristan. And I posted it here.
(As I recall, I saw only a couple Hillary signs, but lost count of Trump's.)
Would you have given this observation any significance?

I rack up miles on rural highways, so I can't read bumper stickers.
It's interesting how everyone's metrics can differ in so many ways.
I knew then that my yard sign survey was skewed by where I drove,
ie, areas where I'd expect Trump to be the more popular one.
Still...the difference was striking.

unrelenting hostility towards Trump, supporters, & even those
who held our noses to vote for the lesser of 2 evils.

Fixed.
So much can happen by then.
We don't even know who the Dem ticket is.
Speculation is entertaining...if it's friendly & civil.

I like this guy's bumper stickers and how well they are placed on the window of his van ...So much so, I'd offer him a good deal on my rifle.

Depends on whether or not there is actual
impeachable material to work with.

If their "witch hunt" falls apart, then stand
by for Trump Invictus.

I don't think that's fair to Democrats. They believe
in a 2 party system, albeit one wherein both parties
have the same agenda...ie, their agenda.

Isn't that the MAGAbomber van? I see a lot of vehicles with these weird stickers in my area too. I think they got a screw loose.
