BP does NOT think climate change is a hoax and has not done so for about 20 years at least. Do not confuse European oil companies with Exxon Mobil or the Koch bros.
I've always thought any real solutions would come from science, not attempts to change people's behaviors.

Nope. I can practically guarantee that a socialist system would be more polluting. Just look at how the USSR and China used to be.
The problem is a society built on wasteful use of energy, because it has been quite cheap, and on reliance on fossil fuels, because they have been the obvious things to use. We now know the problem, but there is, not surprisingly, enormous inertia in society's habits and in investment in technology systems. This is to be expected and is not the result some evil conspiracy that you can point to, while remaining virtuous yourself. If you own a car, or heat your house with gas or oil, you are part of the problem. We all need to be part of the solution. It needs leadership and rules-setting from government, yes. Capitalism will then use its ingenuity to find solutions at economic cost and competition will make them more efficient.

It's killing the coral already, just by natural absorption and the resulting pH fall, never mind actually deliberately loading the ocean with it.

It will need both and both are already happening. People do change their behaviour quite quickly, if you explain things to them and make it easy for them to change.

Yes it is. Which is ... quite sad to witness. The Ocean being so vast, that some of these now-dead coral beds were Unique-with-a-U. Formerly having species that existed no where else on Earth.
Now gone forever.

But anyone, country, leader, e.t.c. who supports them, especially in UN, mostly the third world.
Communism does even worse. Just look at China today, and the Soviet Union and East Germany during their heydays. The Aral Sea is almost completely gone thanks to the Soviets, and what's left is horribly polluted. China's pollution is so bad, people in many cities have to wear masks just to be able to breathe comfortably. I'm not saying the US is done with becoming environmentally friendly (I think we need to do a lot more), but the US has taken more and better steps to reduce our ecological footprint. Under Communist systems, the emphasis is on production and meeting quotas, and if that means cutting corners and not giving a damn about what happens with the waste products, then so be it.

Me - but not really - I don't for a moment think that "the earth" is dying - the earth is too smart to be destroyed by the stupidity of a single species - but if we don't somehow curb our rampant and profligate consumerism, "the earth" will chew us up and spit us out and then carry on without us. The real problem, I reckon, is nothing to do with science, its to do with politics - the only genuine way to address the problem of anthropogenic damage to the environment (in general, not just carbon emissions) is for us to learn to consume less, if we all consume less, the economies of nations shrink (aka 'recession') and nobody is going to vote for a government that wilfully pushes its country into recession. Even now, the entire focus of the effort to address climate change is a business - its a question of how do we make money out of fixing this...it just ain't gonna work.
No you can't - you might be able to name some who say it's not, but you can't name one that can prove it any more than I can name one that can prove it is...either way, appeals to authority are meaningless arguments.
