Russians are Orthodox...

I speculate that missionaries of any sect/denomination of any Abrahamic religion, except Russian Orthodox, are going to find themselves in trouble with the Russian authorities ... eventually.
I also speculate that one or more non-Russian Orthodox missionaries is going to end up in a Russian jail, and we're going to hear pleas by their families, friends, and interested parties for intervention from non-Russian governments.

And that's going to be yet another fine mess that non-Russian governments are going to get dragged into.

Russia has had problems with an overly assertive government long before I was born. It's why too much government is bad.

...I can think of a lot of countries with too little government interaction, where cartels take over and that's bad too.

Personally, I can't stand missionaries who seek to convert either. They too are overly assertive.

In general Non Catholic, Non Orthodox circles many or most Christian circles send Missionaries almost everywhere. Out here in the West, I have been through little towns that seem to have more churches than I thought possible

I was just reading an article that said the LDS are having trouble in Russia. Now I am questioning sending Missionaries just everywhere?

What the LDS Church, other Western faiths are up against in Russia: a dominant Orthodox Church and a wary government

Russia has a very strong orthodox church, kick started by Stalin after the pre revolutionary abuse of religion by the tzars was sweaped away. The russian orthodox church accounts for around half of all religion in Russia.

Although there is officially no state religion in Russia religion, particularly eastern orthodox religion has close ties with government.

Russia has strict laws against evangelising and importing religions so i am not surprised that missionaries have a hard time.

Was it Paul who decided that Christianity needed to spread to the rest of the world?
Jesus said he came for the Jews or Israel..

Over the span of about 1031 years (+/-) there have only been about 70 years that the Russian Orthodox Church and a Russian government have not been in bed together. For that 1031 years, minus that little lover's quarrel after the Bolsheviks took over, the government and church were as thick as thieves. In fact, the czars barely farted without the permission of the patriarch or a diocesan bishop. Just recently (relatively recently as far as Russian history goes) Putin was chastised by Patriarch Alexei in a meeting between the two. The Patriarch wears the pants in that family.

I saw Putin in an Orthodox Church, I think crossing himself, or taking communition. I'm somewhat dubious about the Western Propaganda machine. Not that they are angels, mind you. Russia has 149,000,000 to 325,000,000 and then the UK, and Europe, and the Middle East. Perhaps the reason for their arms race is that they feel so threatened by the West?

So wait, check your story. Religion in Russia - Wikipedia
The Religion in the Soviet Union - Wikipedia Russian Empire was integrated with Russian Orthodoxy. And the Communist Government made a policy of no religion and state atheism through all society.
I don't think religion goes very far in Russia at all since the fall of communism in 1992. I think online these are the most skeptical people you will ever meet. Suddenly its 40% Russian orthodox of a religion they totally did not allow. It looks like very wide variety of Russian beliefs there, too. Well in Russia, maybe you get jailed for anything, maybe they were using the sidewalk.

In a Police State, I don't know. I was just going by the LDS and YouTube.
