It should be a requirement of all religious and world leaders to tell and laugh at fart jokes.:D

I couldn't agree more :)

He sure is a walking talking advertisement for his beliefs. Never too serious! - no matter what the subject! Not bad advice either!

Cheers!

Greetings all!

I was just browsing this morning and found this list of hobbies. Some may surprise you.

Everyone needs a hobby, as the old saying goes. Hobbies help develop our tastes and our passions in life – they can be as diverse as gardening, cooking, writing, skydiving, stand up comedy and sewing to name but a few.

However, very few hobbies are ever considered productive ones, unless you happen to belong to one of those rare few lucky people who manage to turn their hobby into a second job… or who manage to utilise the skills they built in their hobby in their work to become more productive, efficient, and happier.

So, if you’re looking to pick up a new hobby and develop some skills that will help you enhance your proficiency and productivity, then check out this list of productive hobbies you could consider picking up, and their benefits:

Life's too short for hobbies, make everything your hobby!

(btw, I never realized before how weird the word "hobby" is, lol)

I think that's one of the things I adore about the Dali Lama. The Pope is an image of the conduct of widely revered religious figure. Stuffy, stiff, and boring. Too serious. The Dali Lama? He's talking about having to fart in an airplane, lol.
If someone is going to claim to know anything about knowing how to live, they must at least know how to appreciate joking and laughing.

Yes - many words are like that - they "sound" funny and spell funny in a way that other words don't seem "weird"

I like your advice on hobbies - I read a quote recently that mundane activities are ONLY mundane when done with a mundane mind!

Here's a link to maintaining that sense of wonder we are all born with -

Agreed!

i am not sure who said it but the test of a good religion is whether you can make a joke about it. :)

It can be a real challenge to maintain a healthy sense-of-humour but well worth the "effort".

I was about to posst a thread about the funniest books you have ever read - apart from the Bible ...

Cheers!

Well here are a few I have downloaded & enjoyed over the years -

Feel free to add your own - I do know the forum has a music section but that doesn't mean you can't post it elsewhere :)

Any interesting hobbies apart from RF?

Ciao!

Only Cycling, Swimming, DIY and model boats, I'm afraid.

I have never become deeply involved with any one hobby, but prefer to 'dabble' in many. But most of my friends seem to be devoted to one pastime or another.

One man I know from swimming at the pool is a Cemeterian. He and his fellow cemeterians catalogue and record graves. Our cemeteries can be huge and very old, with gravestones lost or taken up centuries ago. This group will discover and research every grave and record it, together with all known information on to a size A0 map, several of these being required to complete an average size of cemetery. At present they are researching every grave in a local churchyard pre-1672 and after-1902, the time in between having been research by a priest until he died in 1902. :)

I discovered this guy's hobby because I wanted to find the Bahai grave of a lady who had been close friends with my late Bahai wife, and I had heard she died about ten years ago. There was little chance in successfully finding such a grave since I didn't even know which cemetery to start looking in. I mentioned this 'off-hand' to him one day, and by that very afternoon I was standing before it! He knew the grave without even needing to reference it.

They found a grave from 1909 here, and discovered that a young African prince lay within, in Kent, England!. They found the family of this young man and contacted it, and received a large sum of money to have a stone erected with all this person's details, and representatives of this family came over for a ceremony. Amazing people..... cemeterians! :)

Cooking, cycling, walking, reading, sex, charity work, caving, anthropology (cro-magnon), driving... Not necessarily in that order.

What sort of climate? We have a mix of 4 seasons - always changing - sometimes all in one day but relatively comfy most of the year.

Found an interesting page about nuts - not we human nuts - the nuts you can eat -

Zone 3 Tree Nuts: What Nut Trees That Grow In Cold Climates

Ciao!
It isn't about the seasons, so much as the summertime humidity in east Texas. It promotes diseases you would not have to contend with in a drier climate.

Thanks for the info - we get a fair bit of humidity where I live but very changeable weather. Up north they grow macadamias & peanuts and other assorted nuts :)

Best of luck with your gardening & vegie patch. Nothing tastes better than home-grown food!

Ciao!

I have had hobbies all my life but at 85 am slowing down somewhat.

Photography was both a hobby and my profession, which later developed and incorporated graphic design and Lithographic printing. and reprography.

I have also been interested in Wood turning and Joinery.
and for a long time wool Spinning and weaving
Along the way I combined my wood skills with those two, and designed and made spinning wheel, looms and accessories. a number of all of which I made on commission.

Along the way I have increased my DIY skills to incorporate Brick laying and wall tiling, and sufficient plumbing skills to refit my kitchen and bathroom throughout. I have sufficient electrical skills to wire both my workshop and kitchen and bathroom , but have had my work checked, certified and connected to the circuit board by a qualified electrician. I do not touch mains Gas.

I have boarded out my loft and put in a larger ceiling hatch and loft ladder.

I am still able to do wood work to a good standard and have continued with Photography.

I like playing music, writing violent lyrics, writing morbid stories, drawing dark pictures, and cooking. Super hot foods (no joke on the heat, it makes lesser taste buds swear they were locked in tomb in the City of Dis) and ultra sour candies (again, mine are super charged), chocolate stuff, and some fun stuff. Many different things, really, but I find candies and deserts especially fun and awesome for creativity. Like making a penis cake for a friend's 18th birthday. :D
Did you use real penises?
