Peace talks with Taliban

New York Times reported Trump had peace talks with the Taliban at Camp David over the advice of top advisors including Pence. It said Pence was mad about it.

But Pence later denied it on Twitter and defended Trump said he backed him up 100 percent.

Therr has been stuff said about Pence that he has more then once tried to stop Trump but always denies it in public.

It's a part of the darker confusion of a White House said to be falling apart.

For proof read recent tweets on it from Trump and Pence.

My 0.02 is that peace talks with the Taliban are a good thing. The longer the US is in Afghanistan the more risk to US troops and now that Osama Bin Laden is defeated I question what the remaining objectives are.

You need objectives in a war otherwise you can just be running an aimless eternal war. Which is great for the war industry, but not so great for the civilians caught in the cross fire.

Is this about Trump , or is it about the peace talks?

Well if the Taliban keeps killing people then peace is kind of hard to negotiate.

Which has zero to do with whether or not a flashy meet-and-greet at Camp David on the eve of 9/11 is "a good thing."

This is Trump. It's not about peace. It's about self promotion. It's about headlines, and it's disgusting.

(Although I guess we should applaud the fact that he wasn't planning to host the Taliban at one of his properties. Yes, the bar is really that low ...)

Honestly, the sooner we get out of Afghanistan, the better. If we need to check with the Afghan government and the Taliban to make sure that the country won't entirely fall apart and create a power vacuum once we leave, then so be it. It's not like major concessions to the Taliban or release of Taliban prisoners were on the table. (If they were, I'd be surprised.)
