@Rival , another question if you don't mind: what do you think about Exodus 7?

The account where Moses / Aaron throws down the staff, and it becomes a snake, and Pharaoh's magic-practicing priests do the same... their staffs become snakes, too.

Who was behind that, do you think?

(Some) magic having a real force behind it, would explain why God's Law severely condemned those trying to use it, like in Deuteronomy 18:10-12.

I've no idea; I don't know how magic works, but I've no reason to believe Satan is behind it either.

Clearly a creative writer(s) with a religious agenda.

I understand how real magick works and does not, and this 'story' has nothing to do with magick, particularly Jewish magick and even less Egyptian magick (Heka).

Almost every other page of the Old Testament reads of war, hate, slavery, and misogyny.
Throughout the Christian bible, Yahweh murders hundreds of thousands; etc

That's precisely the reason I think it's all backward- and meant to be that way- because Satan, and not God, is the one pulling the strings. If you read the OT while keeping in mind it's Satan masquerading as God and doing all those horrific things- floods, fires, genocides, nuking cities, and what have you- then it all makes perfect sense. It makes absolutely no sense for a king-loving God to do those things, but they fit the modus operandi of Satan in every department. (Note that God as presented in the NT does none of these things- he's actually absent to the point of being a secondary character to Jesus.)

Of course, believing Satan is in charge is obviously as indefensible as saying God is in charge- the proof simply shifts proving Satan is real as opposed to God being real. But if you begin with the premise that they are both real, and read the OT with the above in mind, an awful lot of questions are answered and an awful lot of problems regarding the interpretation of God's nature are answered.

In the OT Satan is a subordinate of Yahweh, carrying out Yahweh's orders, a henchman if you will. In Gnostic texts the god of this world is the Evil one. The very name/title Yahweh comes from pre-Canaanite tribes and was the name of the god of both metallurgy and war.

‑from the Gospels of Nag Hammadi: Testimonial of Truth
"the God whom most Christians worship, the God of the Hebrew Bible, is 'himself' one of the fallen angels, from whose tyranny Christ came to set human beings free.

TOT (3:4‑5)
"it reveals truth only when one reads it in reverse, recognizing that God is actually the villain, and the Serpent the holy one."
