BREXIT-DOA

Bob Jones

Prove It!
After watching late into the night all of the shenanigans in the house of commons, I am of the definite opinion that Brexit is now a dead political reform. I consider this failure one of the greatest breaches of trust the British public has incurred in recent time, only outclassed by Mr. Blair´s announcement to join the American lead invasion of Iraq. I would suggest that for the past 30 years, the common law of the United Kingdom has slowly eroded in favour of the Napoleonic Code among other political norms. When Brexit is finally demolished, you might as well raise the French and German Flag over Westminster, because the laws of Britain will all be in violation of some sort of human rights law mandated from the French Courts either in Strasbourg or Luxembourg City! The demise of Brexit is like a boxer being punched in the stomach with all his air being knocked out of him.

Brexit was sold the the British people with lies. What was offered by the Leave campaign was never realistic and now that has become obvious. As one of the leaders said campaign, Michael Gove, said the vote was not about no-deal, which is what parliament has been trying to prevent.

It was a stupid idea to put such an issue to a referendum in a representative democracy anyway, doubly so when it wasn't even an important issue to most voters before the campaign. Brexit, especially no-deal, will damage the economy, will lead to job losses, and it could break up the UK and lead to renewed troubles in Northern Ireland.

The demographics alone mean that the people would now support remain even if nobody has changed their minds (source) - the younger generations want to be in the EU.

Brexiteers, for all their talk of democracy, are too scared to put the changed situation to another referendum. The leave campaign promised easy trade deals and many of them spoke of remaining in the single market. There is no democratic mandate for no-deal.

I sincerely hope you're right, that Brexit is dead.

That is exactly how I feel.

When I read people invoking the Battle of Britain, or suggesting, as Bill Cash did the other day, that the choice of a German* as head of the EU Commission was "a matter of grave concern", I am close to despair. Why do these people need to keep summoning up these ghosts and finding ways to make us all hate one another all over again?

You do know that the European Convention on Human Rights, is a treaty between the members of the Council of Europe, not the EU?

What do you mean? Poland, Hungary, Italy and a few more are having serious problems with the EU.

I dunno, I just said that.
But, nobody seems to be in such a panic as Britain.

I see it as being a matter of their historical disdain for
the continent, their feeling of being separate therefore better.

I think you have made a good point. But the above lady has been embroiled in so much controversy due to her incompetence dealing with military matters. Lets face the facts. Her present and past appointments have a lot to due with political correctness.

I seriously hope not.

We find it entertaining here. :)

How can Brexit work? Parliament has placed a fatal roadblock, no deal, no leave scenario. Parliament will never agree. The only hope I see, would be if the EU mandates a deadline which is ignored by the government and by default the UK is forced to leave.

Well, I sort of knew already two years ago, that you might never leave. The promise to have access to the global market, while restricting the circulation of people (the very reason people voted leave) was a lie as big as a house. Or just delusion. Or both.

The EU will never allow that. To have your cake and eat it too. Believe me. i am Swiss.

So, either you profit from the market, and allow people from Poland, Romania etc. to circulate freely, or you renounce both. Of course, you can make some deals with Trump, instead, lol.

No, I hope Brexit does not draw its terminal breath too soon mainly because of its entertainment value. The rest of the news are either tragic or boring.

Brexit is like a person dying. It is going through its movements of death.
