Is third wave feminism too extreme for me to understand

American mainstream politics are pretty extreme when viewed by literally any other Western country.
I have drifted further and further left since my “detoxing” and I think I’d still be considered centre left in America. Centrist on a bad day. I’m not sure.

My initial disconnect I guess with third wave, was honestly I don’t think I properly engaged with it like I was supposed to. Due to my unfamiliarity of American politics in general. We have different baggage in Australia. Indeed both our sides are like milquetoast in compassion to American political discourse. So when it was explained to me, due to my unfamiliarity with current social science and not understanding a lot of the baggage Americans have to deal with, it sounded conspiratorial to me. So I had a visceral reaction and was too hot headed.

I think I need to do better. But I also might need a “translation” of sorts. Because American political culture in general is probably more extreme than mine. Or perhaps it’s just addressing a different set of baggage, I don’t know. I’m guessing the latter more than the former.

So can my fellow feminists help me understand the points better? I know I was a hot headed irrational idiot before. But I’m more growed up now.

Third Wave Feminism might be aptly described as the "Vivisection of the Patriarchal Nomos" in the metaphorical sense.

Being that the cultural nomos normally operates just below consciousness, just probing it can elicit an emotional defensive response, and the outright vivisection of it might elicit some disturbing emotional and behavioural effects in some individuals depending upon the degree by which a given individual is possessed by the nomos.

So how does one “disconnect” from the nomos?

You have to bring it into consciousness, examine it, critique it, and reject the parts that don't stand up to your individual scutiny, and find a solution to heal the problems that are discovered. It can be easy for some who are not emotionally invested in the nomos, but for those who are emotionally invested in and possessed by the nomos, disconnecting from the nomos can be like an outright exorcism.

I'm a very strong third wave liberal feminist and I honestly think we haven't gone far enough yet.

Your post reminded me of my favorite glass cleaner. Over 20 years ago I use to laugh at their packaging and it has not changed since then. Still a great product:

Oh, except now it is bilingual. The housewife is still wearing heels, an apron and a cocktail dress. But I don't think it is the 1950's any longer.

It might be a good idea for someone to make a sticky post for this section, and in that sticky post could be an brief explanation about waves and terminology. The sticky for all of the restricted political forums says only this:
Feminist: Feminism is a collection of movements and ideologies aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, cultural, and social rights for women. This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment.

What areas do you think we should improve on? Or fight for? Whichever

I would say that it is a good idea to encourage each individual to bring the cultural nomos into consciousness and critique it themselves. It would make a big difference culture-wise. It would be going from groupthink (nomos) to individuals thinking for themselves.
