Pornography and the internet

But many also say they believe pornography production and distribution is a “victimless crime.”
All porn is not necessarily made by people trafficking. Many people make a very good living appearing in porn. Many others just like to see themselves.

Why is it a bad thing if it's on the dark web as opposed to surface web? At least it won't be so in your face
Why is it that religious people get unwanted in-your-face-porn when the rest of us have to go looking for it? Do porn manufacturers scan forums like RF looking for religious people to target?

Technological advances in our modern times has allowed us to reach great feats. This 'computer age' as some have called it, has given us an unprecedented amount of convenience: computer and mechanical systems are able to do things for us in the fraction of the time it would otherwise take us to do. However, one of the main disadvantages of technology, specifically the internet, is the prevalence of pornography. All of us have been exposed to various elements of 'pornea'. Whether that's in advertisements such as what I can see on the religiousforums adverts, advertising dating sites with scantily clad women, at least when I'm using a shared computer. In Google Chrome I got messages saying things like 'Russian girls want to date in your area' with depictions of again, very immodestly 'dressed' women. Even on Youtube - a supposedly family friendly video upload site - contains gravure and sometimes pornography appears on that site. Youtube, as do many other sites like Tumblr, Twitter and Instagram have dark sides to them.

Thankfully, as a religious person I've been able to excise myself from the internet and television with Yahshua's help. I no longer have a tv or a broadband connection and this, though quite extreme, has helped me to focus on spirituality and observe what Yahshua said in the Beatitudes, to cut off whatever is a source of stumbling (Matthew 5:29-30). I still download Netflix shows at the library and then watch them when I get home so I do have some form of entertainment.

I'm writing this thread because I don't know what's going on in your private homes, but Yahweh is an El who sees in secret (Matthew 6:4, 2 Kings 17:9), therefore it's the secret sins that are often the worst rightly so because part of the conscience is telling the perpetrator that they are indeed shameful hence 'secret'. I'm curious to know how other people avoid the constant bombardment of sex and sexualised footage and images on the internet. I feel for those who are spiritually weak and don't have Yahshua to call upon. Acts 4:12 tells us that this name is the only name in which there is salvation because Yahshua means Yahweh is salvation. That was the Messiah's hebrew name. I suspect that those who are spiritually weak are going to have a big problem using the internet as they are opportunities to sin in so many avenues and with the simple click of a button.

Pornography is sexual immorality which is spoken against in many passages of scriptures such as 1 Thessalonians 4:3 and Matthew 5:28. What are your thoughts on pornography? Do you think the government should ban it, help people to overcome it or just leave things how they are?
Yes, many psychologists agree that watching pornagraphy causes many sexual problems, and can cause problems between man and the wife. It needs to be banned.

Geez. I actually fell for it and went to BibleHub for confirmation (or lack thereof, as it turns out).
Yes, BibleHub...rather than any sort of unbiased, actual scholarly source...

Why, oh why, do the religious so desperately hide from reality?

By the way, I'm open to group sex if I'm not in a relationship (that's something I'd love to try out) ;). I just believe that apart from those taking part it should be private hence my adversity to porn. The reason I say this is I had a crappy time at college. So I'm not totally Puritan. Life and society need balance

Not to mention the very erotic "Song of Solomon" 5:4 "My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and my bowels were moved for him."

Geez. I actually fell for it and went to BibleHub for confirmation (or lack thereof, as it turns out).

Actually, that is indeed a legit quotation, and the term 'bowels' is indeed used in a number of translations, ALL found on BibleHub: the KJV, the Jubilee, the American KJV, the Douay-Rheims, and the Darby, the Webster, and the Young. The majority use 'heart' instead of 'bowels' though.

Evidence?

And do you mean rape fetish porn? That's not actual rape.

So you are saying that rapists watch less porn than men that do not rape:

All men watch porn, scientists find

I guess the solution is more porn!

1. Do you have a link to that study, please?
2. That doesn't invalidate the study referred to in the Slate article. Both can be true at the same time.

A bogus figure was quoted along with some very poor logic. I tried to he my this to light by pointing out that almost everyone watches porn. The figure given for assumed male rapists was less than the rate that makes watch porn at. That implied that watching more porn powers the rate of rapes. Which is amazingly enough true.

Please provide evidence for "70% of people who watch rape porn reenact it".

The website I got it from in 2011 is down but I did a 5000+ word report on Playboy magazine in 2012 so I did manage to put down the statistics and where the website got the statistics from. Here are a few from Marshall, 1988:

"Child molesters (87% of girl molesters, 77% of boy molesters) regularly watched hardcore pornography"

"A survey done in 1988 found 86% of rapists regularly watched pornography. 56% [of the rapists] said they imitated favourite porn scenes during their crimes"

Here's one from Cole, 1998:

" An analysis of Playboy, Penthouse and Hustler done between 1954 and 1978 revealed almost 4000 images of children in sexual and violent situations. Hustler's arrival to the industry in 1972 was significant in increasing these numbers"

Here's one worth investigating,

"Rape in America has gone up fivefold since 1960"

according to National Victim Center/ National Coalition for the Protection of Women and Families- US News and World Report, 1997

The reason I say it's worth investigating is I don't know the 1960 and 1997 rape statistics of America. Obviously the higher the population the higher the number of rapes but it seems to me it's rising way quicker than population growth. Either blame porn or blame immigration because that too is linked to crime

The website had more but it's not there anymore. Anyway, you can Google the above quotes with the safe search off

I did. God only knows what that's going to do to my analytics. But, umm, no rape has not gone up 5 fold. The definition just broadened exceptionally to allow for our more nuanced understanding of sexual assault and more people came forward to due to decreasing stigma (though stigma does still compel many to remain silent.)
Like actually read the context
Rape and Sexual Assault

The playboy one I couldn't actually verify.

As for the others, there is scientific literature, but I am not qualified to properly read it. So I leave that to others.

Sorry, without a link your claims are not worth much. And I am betting that you made a major mistake. If your claim is at all true it is not that rape has increased five fold since the 1960's, it is the reporting of rape that has changed. Do you understand the difference?

That is really old data, most of it from before the internet, certainly from before a widespread use of the internet. It is therefore irrelevant to the topic "Pornography and the internet".

Actually, they do. Statistically, people with a religious, sexually repressive background are more likely to respond to porn ads.

I think the government should enforce that all people should watch 1 hour of legal soft porn per week so that this ongoing sexual prudery caused by belief in irrational religious beliefs get scorched for all time.

IMHO, we need more pornography on cable TV, classrooms, workplaces and in public shop windows. At the moment, things are still too conservative, seeing how people mainly keep it to being just a private thing for some irrational reason.
