Pornography and the internet

Why is it a bad thing if it's on the dark web as opposed to surface web? At least it won't be so in your face
The dark web is where illegal stuff is and is much harder to control. Personally I don't see porn unless I'm looking for it so maybe you should stop searching for it. Google has safe search filters so maybe try using it.

If you don't want to watch porn, don't watch porn. If I want to watch porn, that's between me and HaShem. Watching porn will likely decrease the amount of casual sex people have and rape, as others have pointed out. I'm a really religious person and I only watch porn every now and again but it helps give me a release and take away the frustration. I think I'd rather do that than have lots of casual sex.
Same. I much prefer pleasuring myself and watching porn than sleeping around with people I don't really know and we don't really care about each other. It takes an emotional toll and I don't feel satisfied after, anyway.

If you look into MMA you'd see fighter safety is paramount and there are rules
The point is to beat the hell out of each other, often until one is knocked out. "Safety" and MMA (as well as boxing and other combat sports) are mutually exclusive. You're almost guaranteed to get brain damage sooner or later. I don't really watch it but I play UFC video games and it's extremely brutal and bloody. You break bones and beat each other until you're both covered in blood.

Thankfully, as a religious person I've been able to excise myself from the internet and television with Yahshua's help. I no longer have a tv or a broadband connection and this, though quite extreme, has helped me to focus on spirituality and observe what Yahshua said in the Beatitudes, to cut off whatever is a source of stumbling (Matthew 5:29-30).

How far are willing to be cut off from the world to avoid it?

Technological advances in our modern times has allowed us to reach great feats. This 'computer age' as some have called it, has given us an unprecedented amount of convenience: computer and mechanical systems are able to do things for us in the fraction of the time it would otherwise take us to do. However, one of the main disadvantages of technology, specifically the internet, is the prevalence of pornography. All of us have been exposed to various elements of 'pornea'. Whether that's in advertisements such as what I can see on the religiousforums adverts, advertising dating sites with scantily clad women, at least when I'm using a shared computer. In Google Chrome I got messages saying things like 'Russian girls want to date in your area' with depictions of again, very immodestly 'dressed' women. Even on Youtube - a supposedly family friendly video upload site - contains gravure and sometimes pornography appears on that site. Youtube, as do many other sites like Tumblr, Twitter and Instagram have dark sides to them.

I no longer have a tv or a broadband connection and this, though quite extreme, has helped me to focus on spirituality and observe what Yahshua said in the Beatitudes, to cut off whatever is a source of stumbling (Matthew 5:29-30). I still download Netflix shows at the library and then watch them when I get home so I do have some form of entertainment.

I'm writing this thread because I don't know what's going on in your private homes, but Yahweh is an El who sees in secret (Matthew 6:4, 2 Kings 17:9), therefore it's the secret sins that are often the worst rightly so because part of the conscience is telling the perpetrator that they are indeed shameful hence 'secret'. I'm curious to know how other people avoid the constant bombardment of sex and sexualised footage and images on the internet. I feel for those who are spiritually weak and don't have Yahshua to call upon. Acts 4:12 tells us that this name is the only name in which there is salvation because Yahshua means Yahweh is salvation. That was the Messiah's hebrew name. I suspect that those who are spiritually weak are going to have a big problem using the internet as they are opportunities to sin in so many avenues and with the simple click of a button.

Pornography is sexual immorality which is spoken against in many passages of scriptures such as 1 Thessalonians 4:3 and Matthew 5:28. What are your thoughts on pornography? Do you think the government should ban it, help people to overcome it or just leave things how they are?

I never notice it, never get ads, and in the rare case I do, it's a very easy click forward or back. You must be doing something wrong.

Pornography on the internet is very pervasive. Also pornographers do sometimes spread it to people unsolicited and without regard to the recipients. Furthermore children are also exposed to this pornography. Children are incapable of handling pornography.

No, I am not saying pornography must be “banned”. I am saying that means must be established to protect anyone from unsolicited and unwanted exposure to pornography.

Good for you.
I like those points you made. Even protecting your children from the plague is a challenge, and sometimes it calls for extreme measures.
When one knows the challenge they face, they need to consider what are the best measures to take.

With regard to what government should do... This is Satan's world, so the nations are his pawns. The evidence is clear that the nations do not abide by the teachings of Yahshua.
They claim to want peace, but are warmongering.
They have double standards, and why? It's what the people want - the voice of the majority rule.
The majority wants to be gay, then gay it is.
Tomorrow, if the majority wants to marry their dog, then that's what it will be.
This does not happen in all places, but those who don't conform to the "accepted standards" they feel the "rod of reproof".
Example ...
Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Act, 2014 - Wikipedia
The United States imposed economic sanctions against Uganda in June 2014 in response to the law, the World Bank indefinitely postponed a $90 million aid loan to Uganda and the governments of Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway halted aid to Uganda in opposition to the law; the Ugandan government defended the bill and rejected condemnation of it, with the country's authorities stating President Museveni wanted "to demonstrate Uganda's independence in the face of Western pressure and provocation".

Uganda’s president wants to ban oral sex

It's a losing battle, for those who want to promote good. No nation will accomplish it
. So persons seeking presidency in this world, do well to heed Yahshua's commands, and follow his example.
John 17:16 .They are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world.
John 6:15 Then Jesus, knowing that they were about to come and seize him to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain all alone.

Those who follow Yahshua's teachings, know where this world is headed, so they stay separate, and do the will of the father. 1 John 2:15-17

You really need to study your Bible. There is nothing in it against oral sex and it appears to be praised in the Song of Solomon.

@Messianic Israelite you rightfully said that you don't have to go looking for porn, it looks for you, because those who promote it, wants to draw as many people into it. It can pop out at you, any time.
The pedophiles especially want to snag the young and vulnerability.

Can you think of any one way that governments can prevent children from being exposed to porn, even for one brief moment... keeping in mind, that that's all it takes to arouse the curiosity, and since the image has been planted, it is now hard to erase?

Interesting claim. Do you have evidence for this supposed harm?

According to Fussy Puckers (you read that right); over 80% of rapists watch porn and over 70% of people who watch rape porn reenact it
1. Do you have a link to that study, please?
2. That doesn't invalidate the study referred to in the Slate article. Both can be true at the same time.

I as a recovering porn addict will talk on this .For some odd reason I can not figure out you assumed everyone here is religious as you.

Maybe this should be a thread in your religion section. We are not all Christian's here.

Anyways as a porn addict I would say there are barriers programs you can install on your internet and cell phone that keep most porn out.

BTW you must be using your cell if your posting here there's porn on cells too.

I don't get bothered by scantily clothed makes or females because I choose not to look if I do see it I don't think about it.

I keep my Facebook page private so only my family sees it I don't have to worry about strange men prostituting themselves messaging me.

I only get on the internet to come here go to YouTube email and Facebook with family.i also go to Amazon and shop watch movies. But I do refrain from porn but as long I set boundaries over my internet I'm ok.I don't have to look at porn not everyone does.

Same with tv I watch family movies.I don't believe it's required to abstain all together from the internet and TV to stay away from porn.

There are pictures of scantily dressed women on the billboard signs on the highway too what do you about that?

You're still accessing the same internet with whatever connection you're using as you would with a home broadband connection. Maybe you're on dial up, maybe wi-fi, but bullux on the no broadband claim.

Good. It's not your business and doesn't concern you. It's not god's business, either, and he too can butt out.

therefore it's the secret sins that are often the worst rightly so because part of the conscience is telling the perpetrator that they are indeed shameful hence 'secret'.
More people do seem to be opening up to liking porn these days. And many things we do at home, and don't really tell anyone about, but they aren't shameful. It's not unusual if someone walks around nude or in their undies at home. Nothing shameful about it, and they don't feel shameful about it, yet they don't tell anyone about it.

I'm curious to know how other people avoid the constant bombardment of sex and sexualised footage and images on the internet.
Easy: I don't look it up. I also don't have god aiding me either. I do, however, use an ad blocker and java script blocker. And if something still gets through, no panic. Just close it like you would any other pop up. No reason to beat yourself up over it or obsess over it.

Do you think the government should ban it, help people to overcome it or just leave things how they are?
They should just butt out and let people do their own thing as long as they don't harm anyone and everything is consensual. Morality is a personal thing, and things often and usually get bad when someone lets the government take the helm of defining morality, because it's usually being defined by the people who insisted the government be allowed to address and define morality. Especially and mostly when it comes to religion. Outside of basic and simple ideas like informed consent and harm reduction the government really does need to stay out.

Because porn isn't 'acting'; it's showing real intercourse.

Also in the 90s they banned MMA because it was too violent for audiences but it's ok to see movie fighting? If you look into MMA you'd see fighter safety is paramount and there are rules
If safety were a concern in MMA they wouldn't even hold events. The human body just is not designed to take that sort of abuse, head trauma happens, brain trauma happens, early deaths happen. Movie fighting is highly choreographed and "less real" than professional wrestling. If people are hurt there it's an accident and not because they made a career of getting punched and kicked in the head.

I think when you get married, watching pornography reduces. But I dont really see much of a psychological problem in porn. Or at least I haven't read much on it.

As far as sin goes I dont believe its a sin. But yes, according to your OP it is a sin. And yes, if you put your faith in the Bible and Jesus one should be able to curb this addiction if it is one.
