Why is David so Revered?

Bob Jones

Prove It!
David, a warrior, uses technology to kill a legendary giant. What else? Additional,he was a lecher, a thief, a murderer , bandit and a mutilator of dead bodies and dances in front of young girls nearly naked. Saul commands David to secure 100 foreskins as a dowry . Instead David has 200 Philistines killed and spends the rest of the day shaving off their foreskins from their genitalia. Saul is pleased with David´s accomplishments and allows him to marry Michal. His second wife was Abigail, who was married to Nabal(bigamy?) David demands tribute or death from Nabal only to have his partner in crime smote him(god).
He spies on Bathsheba while she is bathing (voyeurism) and falls in love. But she is already married to Uriah. No problem. David orders Joab ( his general) to place Uriah in the forefront of battle; Uriah is killed. He marries Bathsheba. In the meantime, David slaughters thousands of Philistines.
Can anyone explain to me why David is so revered?

Because we're in a futuristic version of Grand Theft Auto online currently i.e it is like being Hell on earth where gangsters are revered.

Soon the CPU will keep those who listen to it's instruction in the religious texts, and inherently follow the right way they should've already known; then we're changing the game to the Sims after.

In my opinion. :innocent:

I like this film and this scene particularly because as a woman I am sick and tired that we are always portrayed as objects of desire, and never as subjects who desire.
Here Bathsheba says that she stripped and took a bath on the terrace because she knew David would be on his terrace at that exact hour.
So he could have watched her.

I have forgotten about this old movie. Surely Gregory Peck is miscasted! Strange promise;shave your penis and I will have a special relationship with you. Why did god create man with a foreskin?

I was thinking about this other day. Many things about David are rather shown to expose his short comings. It was this way with Abraham, Sons of Israel and many other characters, many people do not understand that OT is a treatise dedicated, among other things, to improving consciousness, it written in the language that bicameral mind can understand.

Wasn't it during the reign if King David that was the high point of Israel's history? Was not the hoped for Messiah to be of this same type, not a divinity?

I think....it was rape, pure and simple. There is NO indication from the Biblical narrative that Bathsheba deliberately chose to bathe where, and when, she did in order to entice David. To assume that the only way a woman can be admired is if she sought the encounter herself is, well, an odd position to take.

......and whether she did or not, she had absolutely no power to refuse David anything he wanted. Men in power who abuse their underlings (Clinton in the oval office with a cigar and a blue dress) are guilty of rape for precisely the same reason, whether the woman was 'willing' or not.

I much prefer a loud mouth profanity speaking braggart who, nevertheless, accepts 'no' for an answer.

He is revered because he represents the beginning of an Israelite Golden Age. Given the history of the Jewish people who were perpetually under the heel of other nations, isn't it obvious why David is so revered?

And never treats his wives with anywhere near the emotion he saves for Jonathan. :)

Haven't tried it. I'm more into Red Dead Redemption 2 online. :)

I have to wonder if the anti-Solomon people just didn't like her.

If that's the high point, it's a shame. His own sons wanted him dead.

Given the history of the Jewish people who were perpetually under the heel of other nations, isn't it obvious why David is so revered?
They were attacked during his reign too. His sons turned it into a civil war. He didn't build the Tourist Trap, I mean, Temple. The tribes never really got along with each other. He joined the Philistines at least once. He is just a horny terrorist.
