Trump's Greenland fantasy

I think buying Greenland is actually a good idea.
But if they don't want to sell, we could work out
some other arrangement.
Btw, I oppose conquering Denmark in order to
just take it.

Could you imagine if he actually does it? That would make Greenland the biggest state in America were it to become the 51st state.
They would perish under the US and their land and culture destroyed. US don't really have a great record of treating those they "buy" very well I think. So my guess is that it would go Greenland as it have gone the others.

Clean up abandoned U.S. military base in Greenland

Greenland is renowned for being one of the most untouched places on earth. An abandoned U.S. Air Force base with over 10,000 aviation fuel barrels mar the pristine landscape to this day.

The US Air Force base, Bluie East Two, was abandoned in 1947 and everything was left behind: vehicles, asbestos laced structures, and well over 10,000 fuel barrels. Many of the barrels are still filled.

I spent time at the base camping out over the last two summers in order to photograph the pollution.

The base remains an environmental problem which should be cleaned up. The "Army’s Environmental Restoration Program" is a program to clean up active and old bases. There have been discussions in the past regarding a clean up, but nothing has been done to date to remove the debris and fuel barrels.

I'm adding daily photos of the project to instagram @kenbowerphoto.

Denmark, Greenland sign deal to clean up U.S. military waste
Denmark and its autonomous Arctic island of Greenland have signed an agreement to clean up U.S. military installations that were left to rust in the pristine landscape after the Cold War.

The deal earmarks 180 million kroner ($29 million) over six years for the cleanup. Greenland Premier Kim Kielsen and Danish Environment Minister Esben Lunde Larsen finalized it in Copenhagen on Thursday.

Lunde Larsen said a Denmark-Greenland steering group will decide when and where to start the cleanup.

Greenland's receding icecap to expose top-secret US nuclear project
A top-secret US military project from the cold war and the toxic waste it conceals, thought to have been buried for ever beneath the Greenland icecap, are likely to be uncovered by rising temperatures within decades, scientists have said....

“They thought it would never be exposed,” said Colgan. “Back then, in the 60s, the term global warming had not even been coined. But the climate is changing, and the question now is whether what’s down there is going to stay down there.”

The study suggests it is not.

Project Iceworm, presented to the US chiefs of staff in 1960, aimed to use Camp Century’s frozen tunnels to test the feasibility of a huge launch site under the ice, close enough to fire nuclear missiles directly at the Soviet Union....

So apparently Greenland and Denmark can clean up after them. So taking everything into account of how US treat those they buy, how Trump speaks about others countries and you think its weird that they are not interested in having anything to do with the US? :)

I'd favor the U.S. trading away Puerto Rico in exchange for Greenland; this would give America economically more favorable demographics.

Sure, Trump Can Buy Greenland. But Why Does He Think It’s Up to Denmark?

Could you imagine if he actually does it? That would make Greenland the biggest state in America were it to become the 51st state.

More important fact.

I can't imagine why Denmark would want to sell it.
They have a history of questionable sales like that.
You'd think a Nordic country would appreciate a tropical getaway, for example, yet they sold us the American Virgin islands a century ago, and kept their arctic icebox.

Greenland as a matter of fact has lower crime rates and a higher Per Capita GDP than does Puerto Rico, the economic facts here neither lie nor are racist.
Greenland is Danish and Puerto Rico is American.
What does that suggest?
