I see much talk about the “far left” these days. But does anyone actually know who or what they mean? Is there any agreement on what it means?

Or is everyone an evil “socialist” because they like free stuff and want to redistribute your money to their wallet?

You decide! :D

Far left is Communism, and Marxism, Anarchism.
Maybe only a few on this forum can be seen as far left, the rest of us "lefties" are middle to left or just left, but not extreme left.

Left/right is only one dimension. I'm socially liberal, anti authoritarian, fiscally conservative, believe in government regulation of big business but much more freedom for small business so what does that make me?

The socialist left , as far as I'm concerned, entails the systematic loss of individual and economic freedom at the expense of said promises of equality, distribution of wealth, environmentalism, and societal equanimity.

Marxism. Left is Socialism.
Mussolini was a staunch socialist but Italian Socialism which has a great tradition, is for state capitalism, that is , the state saves eneterprises factories and firms, through treasury or state banks, which make up the public assets.

Through these assets the state build great infrastructures and grants public free healthcare, public free education and so on.

This is called IRI formula

Kinda hard without a "time bracket", but I think communism and socialism are pretty universally left. Anarchism is complicated and sort of rejection of any of those ideologies to a certain extent, so I find it hard to clearly align it either way.

Nazism was "extremely left" in the context of the rather conservative time period of the 1920's to mid 1940, but it would be seen as pretty tame by modern standards and seem a bit middle-left or centrist. (Grievous acts of Hitler and Co. notwithstanding.)

I'd argue that despite its historical origins, anarchy is a far-right trait these days ─ 'I'm not accountable, I'm my own law.'

Anyone that suggests that I can't do whatever I want whenever I want for whatever reason I want is a liberal, communist, pinko, lying, scumbag.

Freedom = total selfishness.

And anyone that says otherwise is the ENEMY.

Eh? The right most certainly isn't about unbridled freedom, considering their history with LGBT rights, reproductive rights, sexual liberty, cannabis legalization, compulsory pledge/anthem/prayer, flag burning, etc.

It's always a question of how much of the spectrum you see. In the US the dems may be left and the reps right. But from a European point of view they are the far right and crazy right.
