Oh, no one is paying me.
But I'm using his tax money to buy my supplies.
I'm still deciding if I want to try regular working again or not. Things are so much better here that I feel like it, but at the same time I can't control when or what my bowels are going to be doing to me and whatever they'll do to my knees and shins I'll most likely be off my feet for several months for recovery. Attempt to do the responsible thing, or say "**** y'all, I've been mistreated for so long I'm enjoying the rest of my life my way."?

How about having @Wu Wei support you?
Then you wouldn't have to work.

I'll be winning if the change, I won't call it 'upgrade' Microsoft told me to install did not totally mess up my computer where I volunteer. The jury is still out.

One machine finally let me in. Win. One machine could not be updated but is still usable. Second win.

True. But I had a legit series of just absolute, terrible, bad, horrible outcomes when it came to work in Indiana. Anymore I'm sure in an interview I could at least have average chances as I feel I've overall improved conversationally enough. Which very poor interview skills I attribute to my getting stuck with places who are just hiring bodies to do the work till they quit (all but one place I worked for there has a very high turnover rate for one reason or another). Here I get breaks, which are great for my knees. But I would need many allowable sick days, because on those days I really do want nothing more than to just be sick. I feel terrible, please don't ask me to do anything. But I do have to get my knees looked at, and because there are actual opportunities that exist here I'd have to figure out what I'd want to do. It's a lot of pressure when the classified job listings are more than factories, fast service, customer service trucking, military, and mechanical related.:D

Time for me to put on my hiring manager hat from the past and pick up on three things you wrote. I'm about to give you advice without you asking which is fraught:

I'd have to figure out what I'd want to do.

That's absolutely #1. If you got an interview with me, I'd want you to say and mean that you wanted the job and why you wanted it. And why you thought you would succeed.

You don't need to know everything about the job. I was hired once when asked a question I could not answer, I responded something like: I don't know that (honesty) but here's how I would learn it and how I learned something similar in the past.

Which very poor interview skills

If you can find someone: practice and practice and again practice. I've been studying acting for fun for a long time. Practicing with feedback works. There are a gazillion interview practice google hits.

But I would need many allowable sick days

This is a tough one because typically sick days are fixed and in the beginning if not ongoing, they're limited as you no doubt know.

This would not be true of everyone but for me and maybe some others, an interviewee who was honest about her physical condition might not be a bar if we could work out a work schedule that was flexible.

Have you tried contract/temp work?
I liked the impermanence & variety of it.

I had that problem with my laptop. Took a day or so to reinstall and make sure everything was working...now there's a message basically to do it again...
