Part of the Boardwalk in Heaven is lined with booths full of hippies sitting over dunk tanks full of their own spit.

And you can have all the baseballs you want.

(Don't ask me how I know. Admin thing).
As a hippie or as much of one as one can be these days, I could take umbrage at that remark. But instead, I'll just say "peace, bro".

I was pushed while handling sensitive and expensive equipment and came close to dropping it. If not for some martial art training it would have been a big deal. It was the equivalent of "just a prank bro". I made sure it never happened again though.

What's the worst thing you've dealt with on the job?

Two knife attacks, several blows with heavy lumps of wood and a large clock, punches, head butts, one judo-throw...... over a couple of decades.

And 'yes', I would write up every one. Some would be convicted and made to pay damages, some not.

The jobs (process serving and retail thief catching) attracted levels of violence so I wore some body protection. It made sense.

They informed the guy how lucky he was that I didn't shoot him, because it would've been legal. (The perp didn't know I was armed.)
Ha ha! And because I explained how I made and wore chest and head protection in another thread you called me a nerd!

And there was you going around tooled up. The water can be shallow, Revolting. :p

One poster here has told me that we carry guns because we want to shoot someone. People can be so utterly stupid, eh.
Some stupid people could even think that needing to be armed is nerdy. :D

PS. I knew it wouldn't be long .......... but I never reckoned on seeing the U-Turn sooner than 24 hrs..... So much fun!

While being an intern a worker tried to kill or cause harm, either by negligence or malicious intent. Never got to understand what he was thinking.

What would you have done in a similar situation?

Depends on who the person is and why they spat. If an adult just walked up to me and did without any prior interaction I would clock them.

What's the worst thing you've dealt with on the job?

When I was a teenager there was a avian flu scare and some confirmed infections here. Local farms were killing and clearing out their livestock so were hiring staff with good pay for being farmhands. Hazard pay I expect. The whole operation was horrible from how the chickens were housed, fed, lack of sanitation. The slaughter just just the icing. I switched to free range after that. I can not even look at supermarket chicken without getting a bit nauseous.

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...
Just when I thought I'd seen everything associated with my job...I was spat upon today. I'm a germophobe, so it was a struggle to get through the police report and internal reports. No surprise that as soon as humanly possible, I left work to shower and change.

I once was spat on in my army uniform, I was so shocked I just kind of stood there. I later reported it, and everyone took it really seriously, which was nice. What was the context with you OP?

I would act like a Real Lama. Look the man straight in the eye and spit him in his third eye.

When I was in juvenile detention I urinated into some milk cartons and threw it on officers.
I think spitting on someone is a much lesser crime.

So you threw a "Shivambu Shower". At least he did not have to shower afterwards;)

What did the tenant do to you?
I don't recall much of the attack & defense.
Only the aftermath is really clear.

Your question makes me think of memory.
It was somewhere around 1990.
Trying to recall details, I wondered about their accuracy.
Without a police report, it might've never even happened, eh?

That I've yet to hear.

I've never had to endure abuse quite like getting spit it. In person, I am generally far to diplomatic for anyone to get too offended. It's a Canadian thing, I guess.

Was punched by a stronger man in my younger days. Was transferred from a job which I liked to another which I did not like. That was towards the end of my working days. I took voluntary retirement on good terms.

I haven't had a haircut since 1992.

I'm not against hippies, I'm just a big fan of Karma.

I think your response was acceptable. In the Bible, if someone unclean spat at you, you would also be unclean and would have to wash yourself and your clothes (Leviticus 15:8). In the case of Miriam, when she criticized Moses for marrying a Cu****e woman, and she was punished with leprosy by Yahweh, Yahweh likened it to Him spitting on her face (Numbers 12:14), and she had to stay outside the camp for 7 days before coming back in to the camp.

Yahweh's Law is about hygiene too, about making a distinction between the clean and unclean. I think it's good that you naturally thought you had to shower and change after being spat on.

When I came home from the Military (during the Vietnam Era), a young woman spat on me and called me a baby killer. I knew she was wrong, and forgot it. No drama.
