Well that's a teeny bit exaggerated, but I guess it's true in some sense, like for example in terms of what we accept as reasonable explanations about nature (like evolution, plate tectonics, atomic theory, medicine, blablabla). See, atheists tend to also not believe in things like horoscopes, sceance readers, voodoo, psychics, tarrot cards, etc. And the reason they don't tend to believe in those things is the same reason why they don't believe in theism... it's because they have a standard of evidence that claims like that have to live upto.

They tend to not, or far less anyway, engage in superstition. Science has high standards of evidence. Atheists will tend to go with mainstream science. As will the majority of theists, btw. Atheists don't have a monopoly on being reasonable.

This is why you won't very easily find atheists who buy into moon landing conspiracies or who are anti-vaxxers, climate change deniers, etc.

Ow dear, no.... Not at all. Theists are extremely diverse in their beliefs. Christianity alone has thousands of denominations, many of them claiming exclusive rights to "True Christianity".

Why would I want to do that? I do not need to prove anything to anyone. I know I have choices and just because I make certain ones does not mean I could not have made other ones.

I am a secularist. It's amazing how lazy people wish to be by tryng to label and box people in to a certain category so they can start copy and pasting their usual and unimaginative "attacks" on. Truly shameful and lazy.

It's not so much a label as a necessity by definition, much in the same way that any quantity above zero must either be even or odd.

Atheism and theism are mutually exclusive and all-encompassing, meaning that you cannot be both or neither. Either you accept the proposition a God exists, or you do not. You cannot both accept and not accept the proposition, so consequently you must either fall under the umbrella of atheist or theist - both are very broad terms.

There's not really any reason not to use the terms. What is it that you think will happen if you identify as either a theist or an atheist?
