What are your reasons?

Why do soo many people spend soo much time arguing against things they don't accept or believe in?

Examples;
-evolution vs a god.
-if I don't believe in a god, I won't waste time to argue against it.
- if I don't accept evolution, I won't waste time to argue against it.

Is everyone trying to turn someone to their way of thinking?

What are the top reasons?
Why invest soo much time in things you can't change?
And go.

It's just fun and on an online forum you have an audience; it's like a little battle.

For me, it's been a great way to learn about other peoples' positions and for me to check how well I understand and can give a reason for my own beliefs. I don't debate nearly as much anymore because I'm pretty much settled in my beliefs, but it's always good for me to see where I still have more to learn and contemplate.

I'm open to having my views corrected, and have changed my stance on a few. I don't presume to know all of the information nor understand everyone's POV on a position.

I find putting my view/opinion out there and allowing other to criticize it useful for me. There maybe arguments against my views I simply haven't considered.

I suppose I see it kind of as a game to successfully defend my position. When I can't it's time to reevaluate my position. Either better reinforce it or even alter it.

It can be their ego or that they simply don't understand fully the topics being discussed, so they feign debate.

Probably the same reason people watch reality TV.

My point exactly. I see some here doing that 12-14 hours with 120+ posts per day.
There must be a reason.

@Revoltingest. This post isn't about you or others like you. You and some others post on and about everything. Which I enjoy.
I'm referring to those who spend 12-14 hours with 120-140+ post per day arguing about God/evolution.

I think most of us want to dictate and change another person's beliefs that we may find wrong in our mind. It is an ego thing.

Even boredom would be a reason.
Indeed - but I don't think reason has much to do with people posting endlessly in evolution vs creation threads.

For me - on the occasional visits I make to such threads - my reasons are:

1. To offer a reasonably informed view that might be helpful to others - not only those who are posting creationist nonsense

2. To remind myself that there are still people whose worldview belongs to a world that existed several centuries before they were born - and that whilst they may not be willing to change their stance (and certainly not in an online forum discussion), they do at least deserve to be exposed to some of the actual evidence that has emerged in the centuries that have elapsed since their "evidence" was written down

3. Entertainment - the discussions are, sometimes at least, mildly amusing.
