Death is a sleep from which only God's spirit can awaken people.

Jesus said Lazarus was "sleeping" (John 11:11-14)....he told Jairus and others that his daughter was only "sleeping"....on both occasions Jesus raised them out of that sleep. He will resurrect all the dead, according to John 5:28-29.

Resurrection for the majority will be back to life on this earth. This is the life that God purposed for us all along, only minus the sin. Sin is what causes death....Jesus' sacrifice eliminates sin, so when God's kingdom rules, death will be no more....no more pain....no more suffering. (Revelation 21:2-4)

In addition to @Deeje 's statement, the Resurrection comes at a later time according to Jesus. John 6 vss. 40 & 44

(How this warms the heart, eh, @Frank Goad ?)
Frank, you are to be commended for sticking to Scripture! In line w/ Luke 10:21, pray to Jehovah for assistance.)

Hope this helps!
